PancakeSwap launches tower defense game, giving away 10,000 CAKE tokens to attract players to join

Launched by the decentralized cryptocurrency exchange PancakeSwap, Pancake Protectors is a Web3 tower defense game that released its test version just last week and officially launched the first season on May 29. Users can earn CAKE tokens and various NFT rewards in the game.

DEX Launches Game Product?

Following the conclusion of the test week activities, Pancake Protectors has released the official game version on the GameFi ecosystem platform MOBOX on the Binance Smart Chain.

Players who participated in the test week could obtain exclusive NFTs to enhance their character's strength and gain a competitive advantage in the game. The game also offers activities such as "Season One leaderboard players will share 10,000 CAKE tokens" and "Seasonal lottery draws," showing the team's dedication to the game.

According to the official blog, players can link their wallets in the game, use the native token CAKE to purchase in-game characters, upgrade in-game resources, unlock new levels, stake CAKE to earn in-game resources, and receive CAKE rewards while playing the game.

Official: Not a "Play To Earn" Game

It is worth noting that although their blog mentions earning CAKE tokens while playing, PancakeSwap developer chef mochi stated:

He added, "For us, this (game launch) is very experimental because PancakeSwap ecosystem has never had a mature game. So we will continue to observe the community's response to confirm if the game is suitable."

Proposal Aftermath Still Lingering

In April, PancakeSwap faced community protests and a mass exodus of stakers due to a proposal to reduce staking rewards.

The price of CAKE also dropped by approximately 49.8% in a month due to the rapid decline in on-chain staking, with staking decreasing by 56.5% to around $200 million.

Although the move aimed to reduce the current inflation rate from 20% to 3-5%, the decrease in profits led to supporters exiting, and the recent launch of the Web3 game was also impacted by community sentiment, facing criticism on Twitter and skepticism.
