Taiwanese Citizens' Personal Information Leaked! Hacker Identified as Chinese National

According to a report by One Apple News, last year, a leak involving personal data from the national household registration in Taiwan was reported. A hacker named "OKE" openly offered for sale on the international hacker forum BreachForums 2,357,02055 records of household registration data from Taiwan for $5,000. This data includes personal information such as ID numbers, names, birth dates, marital status, household heads, parents' names, spouses, and other family members.

Taiwanese Man Illegally Purchases Personal Information via ACE Exchange

Upon investigation by the judicial units, the hacker was identified as a male surnamed Tong from China, who is currently wanted. Furthermore, it was discovered that a male surnamed Zheng in Taiwan had purchased this data from him.

The judicial units pointed out that Zheng, with an engineering background, is currently employed in the technology industry. On October 31 last year, he transferred 4,999.2 USDT through ACE Exchange to Tong's designated cryptocurrency wallet to purchase this personal information.

When Zheng was apprehended, he claimed that his purchase was out of curiosity and not for illegal purposes. After the judicial units restored the seized phone, computer, and hard drive through digital evidence collection, it was found that Zheng did not engage in any illegal activities.

Currently, Zheng has confessed to the offense, voluntarily deleted the personal information, but due to violating the Personal Information Protection Act, the prosecution has decided to suspend the indictment for one year, on the condition that he pays 500,000 NT dollars to the public treasury.

Taiwanese Citizens' Personal Information Still Being Sold Online

Although the hacker is no longer selling Taiwanese personal information, another buyer named "RRR" put up the same data for sale on the same website in July this year, and the post is still active.
