The statement indicated that the hacking incident of Stake.com, which occurred over 41 million USD two days ago, is directly linked to the North Korean hacker group Lazarus. It is reported that this organization has also initiated several high-profile international cryptocurrency hacking cases and has stolen over 200 million USD worth of cryptocurrency so far this year.

FBI Confirms Stake.com Incident Was Carried Out by North Korean Hacker Group Lazarus

In a press release issued by the FBI last night, it was confirmed through their investigation that the hacking incident on the cryptocurrency gambling site Stake.com on the evening of September 4th was orchestrated by the notorious North Korean hacker group Lazarus.

Stake.com, as a cryptocurrency gambling platform, offers games like blackjack and various sports betting activities.

The FBI also disclosed the addresses where the stolen funds are currently held, involving Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Binance Smart Chain (BSC), and Polygon networks.

Furthermore, the FBI advised all cryptocurrency protocols and companies to regularly check the addresses used by hackers in attacks and to avoid engaging in transactions or interactions with them.

Lazarus Has Committed Multiple International Cryptocurrency Hacking Cases

The FBI pointed out that Lazarus has been active recently, with multiple attacks on various cryptocurrency companies in the past three months:

  • June: Cryptocurrency self-custody wallet Atomic Wallet was hacked, resulting in over $100 million stolen
  • July: Cryptocurrency payment platform Alphapo had its hot wallet private keys stolen, resulting in over $23 million stolen
  • August: Cryptocurrency payment service CoinsPaid was attacked with malicious software stealing funds, resulting in approximately $37 million stolen

According to their statistics, Lazarus has illicitly obtained over $200 million through malicious means in 2023 alone.

Stake.com Official Yet to Clarify Details of the Hacking Incident

It has been over three days since the incident occurred, and Stake.com official has not yet released a statement or press release to explain the detailed hacking process, reasons, and resolution.

On Stake.com's official Twitter account, only 2 tweets were posted regarding the incident, stating that the issue has been identified and investigation is underway, and that the problem has been resolved, followed by continued posts about their platform's advertisements or activities.

Stake.com's co-founders Eddie and Bijan Tehrani also did not provide further explanations on their Twitter accounts. When asked if users could be informed of more details, they only mentioned that the focus should be on the fact that the issue has been resolved and services have returned to normal.
