AI Security Council: First Quarter Meeting to be Held in May
The council is set to hold its first quarter meeting in early May and provide recommendations to the Secretary to ensure the safe adoption of AI technologies in critical services.
AI rapidly entered the mainstream in 2023, prompting global leaders to rush to establish regulations to address the new technology. In January of this year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) identified AI and quantum computing as among the most pressing global risks.
Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas stated:
AI is a revolutionary technology that can advance national interests in unprecedented ways, but it also brings genuine risks. However, we can mitigate these risks through the adoption of best practices and other well-researched specific actions. I am grateful that these outstanding leaders are dedicating their time and expertise to the council to help ensure that the United States effectively guards against risks and understands the immense potential of this technology.
