Telegram to remain independently operated! The messaging app will start generating profits next year by introducing advertising mechanisms to its public channels.

After being forced to abandon the blockchain project TON, Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov has remained silent on the matter for a long time. As Telegram continues to grow, the company is planning a new venture for next year: advertising revenue.

Telegram's Mission: Independent Operation

Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov stated that he has been self-funding the platform even while it remains completely free to use. However, with the increasing user base, Telegram must make a choice between starting to generate revenue or selling the company.

Pavel Durov expressed that he does not want to follow the path of selling Telegram to larger corporations, similar to what happened with WhatsApp. He believes that Telegram must maintain its independent operation as a model of perfection.

Seeking Profitability Next Year: Advertising, Stickers

Pavel Durov mentioned that the current features will remain free for general users, with additional features being introduced for business users. The plan to generate revenue will involve introducing advertisements, although this will not affect one-on-one or group chats, but will be implemented in one-to-many public channels. Telegram will incorporate external ads, similar to the concept of ads appearing midway through a YouTube video. However, Pavel Durov assured that the ad presentation on Telegram will be user-friendly and non-intrusive, unlike other platforms, while also covering the costs of servers and traffic.

Pavel Durov believes that this move will also benefit the Telegram community, as it will alleviate the burden of large traffic costs for owners of public channels. Additionally, Telegram may introduce more advanced stickers, with creators of these stickers receiving a share of the revenue.

Currently, it seems that Telegram will not charge public channels based on traffic, unlike Line, but will initially rely on advertising revenue to cover operational costs. Whether this strategy will lead to a balanced profit and loss remains to be seen.
