Which ten games has the guild YGG, a gathering of top blockchain gamers, set its sights on?

The prospect of "play-to-earn" games is enticing, as this model not only impacts the traditional esports industry but also prompts more people in many low-income countries to try earning income through gaming. This signifies that "play-to-earn" games have become a revolutionary new employment model. Undoubtedly, blockchain games have become a significant force in promoting the adoption of cryptocurrencies, potentially positively impacting the lives of millions, or even billions, of people.

Yield Guild Games (YGG) is a decentralized autonomous organization for NFTs, primarily assisting investors in pooling assets and investing in NFTs for profit-sharing with supporters. Currently, YGG focuses mainly on the gaming NFT sector. Similar to real estate, virtual economic activities in games will take place on virtual land. Due to the scarcity of virtual land, the demand for virtual land in blockchain games will continue to increase.

  • This article will introduce ten games that YGG has invested in and partnered with, all of which share the following commonalities:
  • They all focus on NFTs
  • Players own their in-game assets, which they can operate, lend, trade, or sell
  • All these games have a strong income component, allowing players to generate revenue
  • These games have a guild, team, or alliance component to incentivize teamwork

Now, let's take a look at the ten games that have caught YGG's attention:

League of Kingdoms

This game supports both PC and mobile devices, and is a simulation game of empire building with elements of medieval and fantasy.

League of Kingdoms is cleverly divided into non-blockchain and blockchain components, meaning that players participating in the game do not need to have a background in cryptocurrency. For those players interested in the blockchain components, League of Kingdoms allows players to build kingdoms on their own or others' land, and can also sell the plots as NFTs. Based on the relative activities of players on their land, when players acquire resources on the land, the landowner can receive corresponding DAI tokens and a certain amount of resources.

A screenshot of the League of Kingdoms gameplay is shown below:

In addition to land ownership, the accumulated resources in the game (such as gold, wood, and food) can also be tokenized and sold as NFTs on the open market.

In January 2021, YGG acquired a portion of land in the League of Kingdoms game and is building businesses there for future development. The game emphasizes multiplayer strategy and teamwork, with YGG investing in land and other NFT resources that can generate income for our players, allowing players to earn profits and eventually own their resources.

As of now, the YGG DAO treasury holds 286 pieces of land in League of Kingdoms.

F1 Delta Time

In the F1 Delta Time Formula One racing simulation game, NFTs can be used to represent cars, drivers, car parts, helmets, and other racing-related items. F1 Delta Time players can customize their vehicles, learn how to handle them, and complete time trials to qualify for multiplayer races. Winners of the races can receive REVV token rewards, which can be used to purchase in-game items or sold on the open market.

A screenshot of the F1 Delta Time homepage is shown below:

YGG decided to invest in F1 Delta Time for two main reasons: first, to make cars go faster, players need to continuously upgrade their skills (from intermediate to powerful), which can have various effects in races; second, F1 Delta Time places a strong emphasis on team racing activities.

The YGG DAO treasury currently holds 130 generic keys and 328 components in F1 Delta Time.

The Sandbox

Compared to most of the other games mentioned in this article that are already online, The Sandbox is currently in a testing phase, but players can still purchase parcels of virtual land in the game.

The Sandbox does not restrict players from using pre-existing game components, and encourages creators to build their own in-game items from scratch. Through the Ethereum-based utility token SAND, players can create and own different gaming experiences, and generate revenue from them. Game players can create NFT digital assets through The Sandbox Game Maker and upload them to the store.

Landowners can do anything they see fit with their parcels of land, even develop their own games, rules, and reward systems for anyone's participation or just a selected group.

A screenshot of The Sandbox homepage is shown below:

The Sandbox is reshaping the concept of virtual worlds by adding new levels of creativity and flexibility. YGG sees great potential in this game. The Sandbox currently has 62,000 members, with a user base as vast as YGG's guild, which has some of the most creative members. The Sandbox provides them with a platform to showcase their talents.

The YGG DAO treasury currently holds 180 NFTs representing LAND assets in The Sandbox.

Star Atlas

Star Atlas is an ambitious space-themed game that combines a range of novel elements including exploration, colonization, and combat.

The game has not been officially launched yet and is expected to take at least another year to develop, but upon release, it is likely to be one of the most advanced games of its kind. Players can earn crypto rewards through solo activities and combat matches, with NFTs being rewarded to winners in the matches.

A screenshot of the Star Atlas gameplay is shown below:

YGG appreciates the effort put into Star Atlas and believes the game will offer exciting new ways for both passive and active income generation. With its complex cooperative elements such as interstellar, Destiny 2, Dreadnought, Horizon Dawn, Sims Online, Ultima Online, Warhammer, movies like Love Death Robots, Terminator: Dark Fate, Captain Marvel, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Superman Returns, Spider-Man, etc., it is highly anticipated.

YGG DAO has established a strategic partnership with Star Atlas.

Illuvium

Illuvium features completely original, high-quality, four-dimensional NFT designs, which is rare as most other NFT-based games feature two-dimensional artwork. As a modern role-playing game RPG, players can collect, breed, and battle with combat characters known as Illuvials.

By defeating computer opponents, players can earn varying amounts of ILV, the in-game token of Illuvium, which can also be used for upgrading characters and stored as NFTs. Additionally, Illuvium utilizes the Ethereum Layer 2 solution Immutable X, allowing players to save on gas fees when transferring NFTs on the Ethereum network.

A screenshot of the pre-release gameplay of Illuvium is shown below:

Similar to YGG, Illuvium is transitioning to a DAO status, meaning that the future of the game will be in the hands of players and ILV token holders.

The YGG DAO has made early investments in Illuvium.

ZED RUN

ZED RUN is a virtual horse racing game set in a futuristic networked world, where users can own, trade, breed (to generate new genetic combinations for offspring), and participate in round-the-clock open races, as well as purchase horse NFTs. Players need to pay entry fees to participate in races, and top-ranking horse owners will receive a portion of the winnings. ZED RUN, developed by Virtually Human Studio, has a community of over 100,000 members, with 1,200 races broadcasted daily. Each digital racehorse has its own DNA, with some horses being stronger, faster, and rarer, giving them high value.

A screenshot of the ZED RUN gameplay is shown below:

ZED RUN is based on the Polygon network (formerly Matic), meaning that transactions related to ZED RUN are almost free and settle almost instantly. The game aims to democratize ownership and continuously evolve based on player feedback, aligning perfectly with YGG's "player-first" development philosophy.

YGG is building a player team to establish ZED RUN stables for races and breeding. YGG's long-term plan is to establish a "sub-DAO" dedicated to managing ZED RUN under the YGG DAO.

The YGG DAO treasury currently holds 118 Zed Run horses.

Guild of Guardians

Unlike many other games mentioned in this article, Guild of Guardians is a pure mobile game and, like Illuvium, is built on the Ethereum Layer 2 solution Immutable X.

Described as a multiplayer fantasy action role-playing game, players compete in teams for rewards. Expected to be released in 2022, the Guild of Guardians game trailer is very impressive, comparable to any top mobile game available today.

A screenshot from the pre-alpha gameplay of Guild of Guardians from the Guild of Guardians YouTube channel is shown below:

YGG has purchased an extremely rare Mythic Guild NFT in Guild of Guardians, allowing the owner to create a guild with up to 50 elite members, making it the largest guild of its kind in the game.

YGG has also acquired 50 Adventurers Guilds, allowing YGG to attract up to 1,000 of its own guild members to play the game.

In summary, the YGG DAO treasury currently holds 1 Mythic Guild, 50 Adventurers Guilds, and 70 Legendary Heroes.

Ember Sword

Ember Sword combines fantasy, exploration, and strategy-based gameplay, describing itself as the "ultimate sandbox MMORPG," seamlessly integrating advanced game mechanics with the latest smart contract development.

In-game items are referred to as "cosmetics" and are distributed to players in the form of NFTs. The in-game token of Ember Sword is Ember: a token that can be passively earned through land ownership or by completing missions and slaying monsters.

A screenshot from the Ember Sword promotional video on YouTube is shown below:

While the game is still in development, YGG has acquired some important assets in Ember Sword and has experienced the high flexibility the game provides to players and landowners. Additionally, the game has the potential to create innovative forms of economic activity for the metaverse.

The YGG DAO treasury currently holds 16 NFTs representing 16 city parcels in Ember Sword.

Splinterlands

Splinterlands is a turn-based digital trading card game that supports three different blockchains: Ethereum, TRON, and WAX. Similar to Magic the Gathering or Yu-Gi-Oh!, the gameplay is more diverse, featuring elements such as land auctions, NFT card trading, card crafting, and more. The game is already live and supports desktop clients and mobile devices. Splinterlands allows anyone to play and earn cards and other resources, requiring players to create a deck of cards to defeat their opponents. Cards have seven different attributes, each with a different impact during battles, determining the rarity difference of different cards.

These NFT cards can be purchased in digital packs and traded on the open market. Players collect cards, assemble their decks, and battle for prizes, pitting their monsters against each other using magic and special abilities.

A screenshot of the Splinterlands gameplay is shown below:

Since 2018, Splinterlands has developed a community of over 250,000 players, proving that its product is not only practical but also popular. YGG has invested in various categories of Splinterlands digital assets, including card packs, land that can generate and sell resources, and more.

The YGG DAO treasury currently holds 6,252 Splinterlands Regions and Untamed packs.

Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity is a game styled after Pokémon, and it is this game that kicked off YGG's "play-to-earn" journey. As a player-versus-player (or player-versus-computer) game, players can breed digital pets called Axies and have them battle against each other.

Teams of players need to compete against each other, with only the victors receiving rewards. Rewards are provided in the form of SLP tokens (tokens based on the Ethereum blockchain), which are also required if players wish to breed their Axies. Axies are composed of NFTs, with some of the rarest Axies selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars on the NFT market.

A screenshot of the Axie Infinity gameplay is shown below:

In August 2021, Axie Infinity reached a milestone: surpassing over 1 million daily active users, making it the largest blockchain game in the world.

Axie Infinity has been a primary source of revenue for the YGG DAO in its early stages. To date, YGG members have earned over 64 million SLP tokens, with a cumulative value of approximately $9.97 million.

The YGG DAO treasury currently holds 26,000 Axies NFTs (with an estimated value of up to $3.9 million) and 235 Axie Infinity land parcels (valued at approximately $2.3 million).
