Ancient miner reappears! Thousands of bitcoins transferred for the first time in nearly a decade, some donated to non-profit organizations

In 2010, a total of 1,000 bitcoins were mined and recently moved for the first time. Apart from being consolidated into individual addresses and then redistributed, more than 100,000 US dollars worth of bitcoins, equivalent to 9.99 bitcoins, have been donated to the Free Software Foundation (FSF).

First Movement Since 2010

The transaction was initially discovered by cryptocurrency trader Kirill K. and shared on Linkedin. The timeline of the transfer is as follows:

  • October 11, 06:14: 1,000 bitcoins transferred to this address
  • 31 minutes later, 1,000 bitcoins redistributed to 81 different addresses
  • Two hours later, 9.99 bitcoins donated to the non-profit organization "Free Software Foundation"

Possibly Owned by the Same Person as Ancient Bitcoins in March

Trader Kirill K. believes that this bitcoin transfer has many similarities to the one in March and may be operated by the same person. The similarities include:

  • Both involve a transfer of 1,000 bitcoins
  • Both are transferred to P2SH format addresses
  • Multiple BECH32 format addresses interspersed in between
  • Both have a single address receiving 200 bitcoins each

Holding for Ten Years and Still "HODLing"

Indeed, there have been several instances of ancient bitcoin transfers this year, revealing that these holders still possess bitcoins and have not sold them. This includes the two transfers of 1,000 bitcoins each mentioned above, 50 bitcoins untouched since February 2009, and in May, an early miner signing signatures corresponding to 145 addresses to debunk the claim that the addresses provided by Craig Wright in court did not belong to him.

What is more puzzling is that this early miner holds at least 7,250 bitcoins across the 145 addresses, a value significantly higher than a decade ago. Perhaps the only interpretation is that these early miners have unwavering faith in the development path and protocol of bitcoin, believing the value of bitcoin in their eyes, even from the early days, is far greater than it is now.
