Airdrop enthusiasts disappointed! Linea core team members leave successively, community worried about token distribution.

Yesterday, Marco Monaco, the ecosystem director of Ethereum Layer 2 public chain Linea, dropped a bombshell on Twitter, revealing that he had left the project team as early as mid-June. Coincidentally, Emily Lin, a key figure in the project's business development team, also announced her departure around the same time. Airdrops of many projects this year have been affected by market sentiment, performing poorly overall. Linea, which has yet to release its tokens, has been dubbed the "PUA king" by airdrop enthusiasts. With the core team members leaving, the project's future now faces even more uncertainty.

MetaMask Officially Launches Layer 2, Linea Encounters Trouble Shortly After Going Live

Linea is a zk rollup blockchain operated by ConsenSys, the development company behind MetaMask. Due to the involvement of this industry giant, Linea has attracted numerous market participants, with the current Total Value Locked (TVL) close to $500 million.

The mainnet of Linea went live on July 11, 2023, but encountered community backlash just two weeks after its launch. It was revealed that when Linea's official cross-chain bridge transferred assets back to the Ethereum mainnet, it took nearly a week for the transactions to be processed. The official explanation cited an 8-hour delay for cross-chain assets to ensure transaction accuracy, raising concerns about Linea's efficiency.

Founder Departs, Linea Merges with Parent Company ConsenSys

Marco Monaco admitted yesterday on Twitter that he submitted his resignation to ConsenSys in mid-June and officially left the project in mid-July. He mentioned that he had devoted himself to the Linea ecosystem by working 20 hours a day for the past two years.

However, his departure seemed an amicable parting rather than internal conflict within the team. He expressed pride in Linea and wished to spend more time with the team. He also expressed eagerness to see how Linea's token issuance would unfold and encouraged continued attention to Linea's developer community.

Regarding the reason for his departure, he stated, "Linea is currently undergoing significant changes. This is an opportunity to review our completed work, discuss our vision, and plan for the future steps. During this period of reflection, the ConsenSys leadership and I agreed that the best path forward for Linea no longer involves me personally, as our visions are no longer aligned."

Upon closer examination of the timing of Marco Monaco's departure, it coincided with the resignation of former Linea team member BD Emily Lin on June 20. She announced her move to another Ethereum Layer 2 project, Scroll, on Twitter.

Following Marco Monaco's departure, Linea will be reintegrated into the ConsenSys team.

Disappointment and Doubt in the Chinese Community, Suspicions Arise on Linea's Token Issuance Intentions

Upon the news of Marco Monaco's departure, the Chinese community largely perceives Linea as facing failure. Some question whether it is another project where the costs outweigh the benefits, as seen in the comments under KOL Hebi's post.

Some even speculate that this move indicates Linea's failure or lack of token issuance plans.

NFTScan Labs founder 0x12.mint commented, "It seems reasonable, as ConsenSys' parent company has the resources. Linea, as its L2 network, can focus on conducting on-chain business like Base to make money, without the need to issue a token. Whether Linea will issue its own token depends on its current financial situation, which should be stable. In the long run, any economic entity should issue its own token."
