Not only Solana launches a mobile app, but also the veteran public chain Zilliqa promotes a gaming console, integrating mining capabilities and play-to-earn (P2E) gameplay.

The long-standing public blockchain Zilliqa (ZIL), based on sharding technology, has announced the launch of a Web3 gaming console in early 2023. The official has not released many specifications but emphasized the integration of Web3 elements such as mining, Play-to-Earn (P2E), and NFTs.

Not Just a Gaming Console, But Also a Mining Rig

Zilliqa has not made an official announcement, but news has been released through blockchain foreign media and tech media VentureBeat. The gaming console integrates blockchain technology, Web3 elements, including a crypto wallet, mining, and features a Play-to-Earn mechanism that allows players to earn ZIL tokens by completing in-game tasks.

Valentin Cobelea, Zilliqa's gaming technology lead, mentioned to Decrypt that Zilliqa seamlessly integrates Web3 wallets into the gaming console, and NFTs are integrated following the model of the popular sports NFT project NBA Top Shot.

Zilliqa also believes that the adoption of the gaming console will help expand the mainnet miners, further decentralizing the Zilliqa main chain.

Zilliqa nodes are concentrated in North America and Russia

CoinMarketCap data shows that Zilliqa, a core public chain with sharding technology, ended its ICO in January 2018 and became one of the top 100 projects by market capitalization on CMC in February. By May, its market cap exceeded $1 billion, entering the top 30 by market cap.

Although it was a strong competitor in that year, Zilliqa has gradually declined in the environment where public chains and EVM-compatible chains have emerged. As of the time of writing, its market cap ranking has dropped to 80th place.
