Ethereum infrastructure service Infura is the default node service provider for MetaMask, so when Infura experiences issues, MetaMask is also affected. On the evening of the 22nd, MetaMask was unable to function properly due to problems with Infura. (Service has been restored as of the early hours of the 23rd)

Switching RPC Quickly and Easily
In MetaMask, go to "Settings" > "Networks" > "Add Network":
Next, you can find available RPC endpoint API Keys on https://ethereumnodes.com/, fill in the new RPC URL in MetaMask, and save it to use the new network.
