After dedicating the last seven years to development, Dogecoin

Dogecoin co-founder Billy Marcus announced on Twitter on the 26th of this month a somber message, revealing the passing of core developer and early evangelist, Sporklin, who had dedicated the last seven years of her life to promoting Dogecoin.

Sporklin passed away on the morning of the 24th, prompting Marcus to call for community unity, fundraising efforts, and donations to cancer charities in Sporklin's name. He also created a meme to commemorate Sporklin and express gratitude for all she had done.

Seven Years of Development Contribution

Marcus stated on Twitter that Sporklin dedicated the last seven years of her life to Dogecoin in various ways, supporting development, educating the community, valuing integrity, and adhering to her ideals. Marcus said:

She has had a profound impact on many people, handling many things behind the scenes. Let us all show our respect for her contributions to Dogecoin and the community we enjoy, and support her family and friends during this mourning period.

Conflicting Ideals Lead to Exit from Core Development Team

Approximately a month ago, Sporklin announced her departure from the core development team on Reddit. Apart from health reasons, the main reason cited was the team's frequent changes in Dogecoin's development direction.

She believed that change is not necessarily a bad thing and can bring growth and new things. However, in cryptocurrency projects, development teams are often based on loose ideals, expectations, and directions. When too many conflicting ideas clash, everything becomes unproductive and unhealthy.

Therefore, Sporklin carefully considered her future involvement. She was unwilling to participate in or support what she perceived as harmful or even threatening to the project she had been deeply involved in for years. She emphasized that as a more cautious developer, her decision to step down was solely due to the inability to support various opinions.

Previously, on Dogecoin's commemorative day on 4/20, the price of Dogecoin briefly reached $0.45 but later fell due to a general market correction. Despite a petition on Change.org urging Amazon to accept Dogecoin as a payment option approaching nearly 200,000 signatures, the price of Dogecoin remains around $0.27.
