Twitter's decentralized initiative "Bluesky" has finally made progress, with former Zcash core developer Jay Graber revealing in a tweet that she will be leading Bluesky. Twitter's CEO promptly retweeted to welcome her arrival. However, the slow development progress of Bluesky has also attracted criticism from Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger, leading to a dispute with Jack Dorsey.

Twitter's Move Towards Decentralization

Former Zcash core developer Jay Graber tweeted:

Excited to announce that I will be leading Bluesky, looking forward to working closely with Twitter and other companies, this won't happen overnight, but we'll be sharing our progress along the way.

Graber also urged everyone to join the Discord community of the Bluesky project.

Graber mentioned that she has been working in the decentralized social media field for the past year and joined Bluesky after creating the decentralized platform "Happening" in 2019.

In January, she also wrote a comprehensive ecosystem review for Bluesky, exploring applications such as IPFS and the token of the decentralized browser "Brave."

Despite this, the future applications of Bluesky remain somewhat unclear to the public.

Undeveloped Bluesky

According to the blueskyweb official website, only the homepage is available. Bluesky is currently in the first stage of development, recruiting a development team consisting of one protocol developer and one web developer.

Although Graber's ecosystem review may provide direction for Bluesky, its decentralized mechanism and whether it will have an incentivized token economy built-in are still unknown.

Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger retweeted Graber's job declaration and criticized:

Bluesky was launched based on a Twitter project 18 months ago, now announcing a new head? Has it become a new project? Don't trust them. True decentralization is fundamentally different from Twitter's business model.

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey responded:

New project? This is our first and only project that we lead, perhaps Bluesky seems to be at odds with Twitter today, but it doesn't mean it will be in the future, and "don't trust us," that's the whole point of decentralization.
