Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey had expressed interest in creating a new type of Bitcoin mining system back in October last year. Today, Block's hardware manager Thomas Templeton confirmed on Twitter that the project will officially launch, and he shared the mining issues they are currently facing.

Block Mining Project

"From purchasing, setting up, maintaining to mining, we aim to make mining more decentralized and efficient in all aspects. Mining is not just about mining more bitcoins, we believe it is a long-term demand for complete decentralization and an open future," said Thomas Templeton.

However, before making mining more popular, some technical issues need to be addressed.

1. Availability: For most people, buying mining rigs is not easy, and how to purchase and ensure they can function properly upon receipt are issues. How can we make it easy for anyone to purchase mining equipment anywhere?

2. Reliability: Heat dissipation and dust are two major troubles with current mining rig systems, causing mining to stop and consuming a lot of time to restart. We want to build something that can operate normally. The mining rig system must be simplified to make it a reality.

3. Performance: Some mining equipment generates unnecessary harmonics in the power grid, they are noisy and too loud for home use. Lower power consumption and higher hash rates are what all miners are striving for. What is the balance point between performance and other factors?

Team Building

After evaluating the current technical situation, the Block team will start product development, with performance, open source, and system integration being the team's top priorities. The team is currently recruiting engineers and designers, and Jack Dorsey is also promoting this project from an official perspective.
