SBF talks politics! Expected to donate over $100 million in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

FTX exchange founder SBF donated up to $5.2 million in political contributions to the Democratic candidate Biden during the 2020 US presidential election. In yesterday's podcast episode "What’s Your Problem," host Jacob and SBF revisited this topic, with SBF indicating that he may donate even more in the next election and explore different approaches than before.

SBF has maintained a relatively open attitude towards donations to political figures. In early May, a Democratic candidate, Carrick Flynn, who was running for a seat in the House of Representatives, received millions of dollars in donations from SBF. This was because Flynn's platform focused on preparing for and addressing the flu, an issue that SBF was particularly concerned about. However, Carrick Flynn did not ultimately win the election.

In the latest episode of the "What’s Your Problem" podcast, host Jacob Goldstein discussed this with SBF. SBF mentioned that he will continue to donate to political figures, especially those he believes have a high probability of losing the election. He believes that donating to candidates with already high chances of winning would not make much of a difference.

SBF to Donate Again in Presidential Election

SBF's donation to Biden during the 2020 U.S. presidential election sparked discussions at the time. The host was curious whether SBF would donate again in the 2024 election. SBF affirmed that he would, but the amount would depend on the candidates at that time and the motivation behind the donation.

When pressed for a specific amount by the host, SBF stated that it would exceed $100 million, with $1 billion being a soft cap for donations. Furthermore, this money would not only be donated to political parties but distributed among different groups and organizations.

"I think I will look at this less from a party perspective and more about the health of governance and promoting the things I care about," SBF stated.

The reason SBF is willing to donate such a substantial amount is because he believes the United States not only brings many opportunities to the world but also carries a lot of responsibility. He believes the U.S. must lead the West in a strong yet responsible manner, as everything the U.S. does will have a significant ripple effect on the future world.

According to data from the government oversight website OpenSecrets, if SBF does donate $1 billion in the 2024 U.S. election, it would far surpass the current record of $218 million for the highest donation.
