Japanese Variety King Atsushi Tamura Reveals Buying 2 Bitcoins

Known for hosting the program "Otokomae Kyojitsu" and dubbed the "Japanese Variety King" by the media, Atsushi Tamura recently participated in the Japanese cryptocurrency summit WebX. During a dialogue with bitFlyer exchange CEO Yuzo Kano, he disclosed his past investment in Bitcoin.

According to the Japanese media outlet CoinPost, Tamura stated that he bought 2 Bitcoins when 1 Bitcoin was worth 180,000 Japanese yen (about $1,200), and later expanded his investment portfolio to include other cryptocurrencies.

He then asked Kano, "Is it possible to become a billionaire by investing tens of thousands of yen?" Kano believed that achieving this solely through investing in Bitcoin might be difficult. He emphasized that for high returns, investors should pay attention to other coins with new technology and future potential, and stressed the importance of long-term holding (HODL).

💡What is HODL: Originally a joke where a Bitcoin enthusiast misspelled HOLD as HODL, it evolved into a term specific to the crypto community, indicating long-term or steadfastly holding a particular cryptocurrency.

Differences in Attitudes Towards Bitcoin Between the US and Japan

Kano pointed out that in the US, with the upcoming election, there is significant interest and enthusiasm for Bitcoin among supporters of both parties. However, Japan's understanding and acceptance of Bitcoin are relatively cautious, reflecting a conservative political attitude.

As reported by "Crypto City," Republican presidential candidate Trump once mentioned that if elected, he would consider Bitcoin as a US reserve asset and proposed several crypto-related policies.

Although Harris has not yet put forward related policies regarding cryptocurrencies, some Democratic supporters (including billionaire Cuban) have established Crypto4Harris in hopes of pushing Harris to introduce clear crypto policies.

The Future of Crypto Payments in Stablecoins?

When discussing the practical applications of cryptocurrencies, Kano explored the potential of stablecoins in the future of payments.

He pointed out that with the open platform nature of cryptocurrencies, stablecoins offer convenience and round-the-clock payment advantages in the international remittance field. They are expected to become a mainstream payment method in the future. He envisions a scenario where someone live-streaming themselves eating sushi could receive instant transfers from viewers in Brazil through crypto payments.

As a director representing the Japan Blockchain Association (JBA), Kano also hopes for Japan to reform its tax system. If tax rates can be reduced, it will help foster and increase profits in the Web3 industry, enhancing Japan's international competitiveness.
