Twitter Killer? Damus has been online for nearly a week! Pornographic and scam advertisements flooding the platform alternately.

Social app Damus, strongly supported by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, has recently sparked discussions in the crypto community, even being dubbed as the "Twitter killer." However, is Damus really as excellent as it seems? What is the ecosystem like after its launch for nearly a week?

Damus Overnight Sensation, Surges into Top Ten Downloads

Upon its release, Damus gained popularity for its high privacy, low entry barriers, and resistance to censorship. With the endorsement from Jack Dorsey, it attracted a large number of users to download and try it out, briefly entering the top 10 social apps on the U.S. App Store.

Suddenly, various analytical articles on social media began to explain the strengths of Damus, and groups of friends started sharing their Damus IDs on various social platforms to follow each other.

However, in terms of user experience, Damus doesn't seem as user-friendly as imagined.

Poor User Experience with Damus

Firstly, when starting to use a new social platform, many people's first step is usually to set up a profile picture and cover photo. However, performing these actions on Damus is quite troublesome as it requires uploading images to the internet and pasting the image link to make changes, rather than directly using photos from the phone. This step alone is quite inconvenient.

Additionally, due to the platform's resistance to censorship and lack of content restrictions, the shared content page is filled with a large amount of adult content and posts resembling scams or Ponzi schemes.

Furthermore, advertisements like the one below continuously cycle through Damus' pages, with hardly any meaningful content visible.

There are even instances of two consecutive posts with the same content but from different users.

Overall, the majority of posts are from Simplified Chinese users, mostly containing adult and gambling content, resulting in a very poor user experience. This phenomenon has led to some users pushing back, calling for a reduction in advertisements and low-quality content.

Users' only means of resistance are blocking and reporting, but since account registration is too simple and there are many advertising accounts, the resistance efforts are not very effective.

Currently, there is still a significant gap in user experience between Damus and Twitter, with the primary focus needing to address the issue of too many advertising bots and meaningless articles on the platform.
