Interview with Capsule Vault: Reviewing NFT NYC, new NFT project Wasted Wild

Taiwanese NFT project Absurd Arboretum's production team Capsule Vault CEO Kevin Chu attended the NFT NYC event in early November. Kevin Chu shared his insights from New York and discussed the recent NFT project - Wasted Wild.

About NFT NYC

Kevin Chu stated that as a creator, his purpose in coming to New York this time is to represent his team and communicate with everyone. During the process, he was fortunate to have in-depth discussions with collectors, creators, virtual art galleries, and more.

The most impressive new concept for him was the IRL minting from Bright Moments. This is a new type of event where Bright Moments Gallery attempts to complete the minting process in the real world, creating a deeper connection between owners and the community. He believes this is a very smart approach because a large part of the value of NFT is based on personal experiences. Participants can experience the minting process through interactive installations that combine physical and digital elements. He said, "The Bright Moments team also distributed Crypto New Yorkers on the streets before the event, inviting New Yorkers who were still skeptical about NFTs to join the NFT family. However, DYOR, after all, I am already a Crypto New Yorker!"

In addition, Kevin Chu felt that the highlight of this event was attending the Bored Ape Yacht Club charity dinner hosted by Ohhshiny. He mentioned that as someone who grew up in Asia, he had never experienced the culture of brotherhood, but he was delighted that, thanks to NFTs, he could witness and experience a stronger global community emerging in reality.

New NFT Project Wasted Wild

1. What is the theme of Wasted Wild this time?

Kevin Chu: Wasted Wild, also known as the wilderness, is a future world on the blockchain that is filled with pollution due to overdevelopment, creating a harsh and extreme environment. The animals living in this world have evolved into cybernetic creatures using resources such as garbage and industrial waste to survive. They hope that through their presence on the blockchain, they can shelter the animals of the world, preventing a dreadful future. Continuing the theme of environmental conservation from the previous installment, this time the team chose to connect the Metaverse with the conservation of endangered animals by creating a collection of 6666 3D full-face avatars consisting of crabs, rhinos, and birds in the sea, land, and air. Through the creative energy of NFTs, they hope to raise awareness for real-world issues and, like the first installment, integrate virtual and reality applications to make the world a better place.

2. What kind of innovation do you think it brings to the PFP field?

Kevin Chu: Unlike most PFP projects presented in 2D, we chose to create a large quantity in 3D and broke away from the usual pattern of featuring a single species as the series protagonist. We extended the series with three subgroups of marine, land, and air species, creating over a trillion possibilities among the three different animals. The works contain elements of garbage, technology, and biological features. Within the main collection of 6666 pieces, we also invited ten artists to create their own rare 1/1 version NFT series in different styles, aesthetics, and techniques.

3. Introduce the creative team of Wasted Wild

Kevin Chu: Capsule Vault, as a collective NFT creation platform, aims to introduce Taiwan's artistic energy to a broader market. Therefore, in addition to the original team of the Absurd Arboretum, to diversify the visual presentation of the works, we gathered ten Taiwanese artists to collaborate in conceptualizing the collaborative series of Wasted Wild. Furthermore, inheriting the concern for nature from the first installment, this series will also promote endangered animal conservation issues and donate profits to contribute to the world.

The list of artists includes three CGI artists, Jiayu Jin, Sam, and Patrick, who co-founded Capsule Vault; guest artists such as Chris (tattoo artist), Yi-De Zhang (3D artist), Jian-An Zhou (illustrator), Sic Lee from the "Sun Dragon Palace" (tattoo artist), Toma and Ray from "thebaystudio" (tattoo studio), Aka (lighting artist), Xian (3D artist), KhooKG (illustrator), and Jona (3D artist).

4. What is the connection between Wasted Wild and Absurd Arboretum?

Kevin Chu: In addition to continuing the celebratory events of the Absurd Arboretum's evolution from the first installment, there will be a series of special events and works open to holders of both projects in the future. Similar to the sustainable planting application in the first project, the second installment will also contribute to the earth's ecology through works with sustainable value and high aesthetics.

5. Future plans for Wasted Wild

Kevin Chu:

  • A unique sustainable community: The CV team will continue to introduce more activities and elements into the community, aiming to create novel, collaborative NFT art within the community to raise public awareness of sustainability and environmental protection. By establishing a brand shared by a creative community, the possibility of making the world a better place through creativity will manifest within the community.
  • Integration of virtual and reality: Continuing the integration of virtual and physical from the previous installment, in "Wasted Wild," in addition to physical representation in the project, we will also emphasize more in the Metaverse world, allowing for the transformation of Wildings' appearance accessories in the Metaverse in the future.
  • A platform for the public and more creation: Just as we have collaborated with various types of creators in these two installments, we will continue to incorporate talented artists into the Capsule Vault ecosystem for collaborative creation and share high-quality works with community members.
  • Commitment to ecological conservation: We believe that true innovation requires designs that can coexist and thrive with the environment. Therefore, following the environmental conservation of the Absurd Arboretum, the works of Wasted Wild will also focus on, convey, and support various actions related to ecological conservation. Collaborative decisions will be made by the community to cooperate with NGOs such as Re:wild or Wild.org, allowing technology to truly contribute to conservation efforts.
