After weathering the ups and downs of the past two weeks, STEPN has today announced a series of changes to its game mechanics. These changes seem to be conducive to driving up the price of shoes, and there have also been alterations to the energy calculation mechanism. For those of you who haven't given up on STEPN yet, be sure not to miss this latest announcement!

STEPN Game Mechanism Adjustment Plan

1. Cross-Domain Realm Energy Bridge

In the future, each newly developed realm will be better understood as a chain. Players can obtain up to 3 points of energy through existing realms, and owning a pair of sneakers in any existing realm will provide an additional 1 point of energy.

The additional energy will have a limit of 3 in the first month, reduce to 2 in the second month, and 1 in the third month. From the fourth month onwards, no additional energy can be obtained.

Example: When a new realm is activated, a user purchases three pairs of sneakers, totaling 4 points of energy. If they also own several pairs of sneakers on the BNB chain and Solana, these two chains will each provide 1 point of energy initially.

Below are the energy changes for users in the new realm over the next few months:

  • First month: 6 points of energy
  • Second month: 6 points of energy
  • Third month: 5 points of energy
  • Fourth month onwards: 4 points of energy

2. Adjustment of Forging and Treasure Chest Mechanisms

In order to give every player the chance to obtain treasure chests and forging scrolls, the levels of treasure chests will increase from 5 to 10 types, and even owning a single pair of sneakers will have a chance to acquire a treasure chest.

Additionally, the cooldown time for forging shoes will increase from 48 hours to 72 hours, and the forging cost will slightly increase, allowing the market more time to absorb the production of new sneakers, aiming to create a healthy game economy cycle.

3. Dynamic Adjustment of Shoe Forging Costs

In the future, regardless of GST prices, the GST required for forging shoes will remain constant, while the GMT part will be dynamically adjusted.

Adjustment Rule: As GST prices gradually increase, in addition to GST and fixed GMT baseGMT, extra GMT addGMT will be required.
Formula: GST A + baseGMT B + addGMT [A+B]*x. The following are the values to be used for x based on changes in GST prices:

  • GST < $4: x = 0%
  • $4 < GST < $8: x = 50%
  • $8 < GST < $12: x = 100%
  • $12 < GST < $16: x = 200%
  • $16 < GST < $20: x = 400%
  • $20 < GST < $30: x = 800%
  • $30 < GST < $40: x = 1600%
  • $40 < GST < $50: x = 3200%
  • GST > $50: x = 6400%

4. Shoe Recycling Mechanism

This issue was the most consistent in user feedback, and the new mechanism is as follows:

  • Five pairs of sneakers of the same quality can be synthesized into the next higher-quality sneakers.
  • Unlike upgrading gems, shoe synthesis will always succeed but will require a certain amount of GMT and GST fees.
  • The range of attribute values for the new shoes will increase by 20%. For example, if the range of attributes for normal green shoes is 8-18, the range for synthesized green shoes will be 9.6–21.6.
  • The probability of the new shoe types Walker / Jogger / Runner / Trainer is related to the types of the five shoes used for synthesis.
  • A short phrase can be added to the new shoes and cannot be removed, providing a new social experience.

5. Potential Future Changes

In addition to the above adjustments, more changes will be made in the future based on community feedback and operational conditions. The following two points may be implemented in the future:

  1. When changing the NFT prices in the market, fees will be required to prevent malicious listings by bots and users excessively changing or canceling prices.
  2. Similar to the dynamicization of forging costs, platform fees within the game can be dynamically adjusted based on GST prices. Currently fixed at 2%-4%, it could be considered to change to a floating rate of 3%-9%.
