Line Next partners with SEGA to bring SEGA's classic characters to the Web3 gaming platform Game Dosi.
Japanese communication giant Line's blockchain and NFT company Line Next announced a collaboration with video game industry leader SEGA. They will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to obtain IP application licenses, bringing one of SEGA's classic games to their Web3 gaming platform GAME DOSI. Previously, SEGA had expressed plans to reduce the transformation of their own IP into Web3 games and instead rely on third-party partners, such as Line Next, for this endeavor.

Line Next Partners with SEGA
Line Next's Web 3 game platform GAME DOSI announced this morning at 10 a.m. on Twitter that it has been granted permission to use one of SEGA's most popular classic IPs and develop it into a Web3 game.
In the future, this new game will be launched on the Game Dosi platform, supporting NFT minting, digital payments, and marketing activities as part of Line Next's initiative to promote Web3 games. Specific details about the IP and the game have not been disclosed yet.
Line Next CEO Youngsu Ko expressed excitement in a press release:
We are thrilled to collaborate with SEGA to bring some exciting games to gamers worldwide in the Web3 space. Through this partnership, GAME DOSI will offer Web3 content that anyone can easily engage with, including SEGA fans.
SEGA Avoids Risk to Reputation of Well-Known IP, Only Partners with Small IPs
SEGA's move is consistent with its previously stated position, which leans towards licensing small game IPs under its umbrella. SEGA has expressed reluctance to integrate blockchain technology into its well-known large IPs like Sonic the Hedgehog to avoid excessive uncertainty.
Previously, Cryptonews reported that blockchain games seem to be a sensitive topic among gamers, with some players expressing disdain for games that include crypto, blockchain, or NFT elements.
It is evident that SEGA's public acknowledgment of not taking risks with its biggest IPs in the play-to-earn sector is not only a significant blow to fans who are supportive of crypto but also will have a significant impact on the future direction of other game developers.
However, there are still many game development companies dedicated to integrating blockchain technology, including Japanese developer Square Enix, as well as well-known Korean gaming companies such as WeMade and Nexon.
In May of this year, Game Dosi announced that it will launch five games with different styles combining NFT technology on its platform by 2023. They have already released six games, including their independently developed "Project GD."
