YouTube Changes Leadership! Reviewing the New CEO

After serving as CEO of YouTube for 9 years, Susan Wojcicki has decided to step down and take on an advisory role at Google's parent company Alphabet. The new CEO, Neal Mohan, previously served as the Chief Product Officer at YouTube and was involved in the development of many current features. Looking back at his past statements, it seems that he is quite interested in Web3 and NFT functionalities.

Change in Leadership at YouTube

According to Susan's resignation statement, Neal Mohan, as a member of the leadership team, will become the new CEO of YouTube.

Neal Mohan has been the Chief Product Officer of YouTube since 2015, during which time YouTube has launched many products that have changed the platform significantly, including short video feature Shorts, YouTube Live, music platform YouTube Music, and subscription service YouTube Premium.

"With all that we've done with Shorts, Live, and subscriptions, and our commitment to AI, the most exciting opportunities for YouTube lie ahead, and Neal is the right leader to guide us," Susan stated.

Web3-friendly New CEO

The change in CEO at YouTube could be good news for the NFT or Web3 industry.

According to previous reports, the new CEO Neal Mohan had mentioned in a YouTube official blog post in February last year that he plans to provide creators, viewers, and partners with a range of new products, tools, and features, incorporating concepts such as Web3 technology, blockchain, NFTs, and the metaverse to create the best experiences for various stakeholders.

At that time, Mohan also mentioned that tokenizing various media or experience modes with NFT technology could be a possible option. Additionally, Mohan expressed interest in the "Metaverse" as users can expect to enjoy new experiences through virtual reality (VR).

Although the related plans were initially expected to be realized in 2022, it seems delayed at the moment. With the new CEO Neal Mohan taking office, we may anticipate the launch of these features this year.
