The classic sci-fi film "The Matrix," known for its iconic slow-motion dodging bullets scenes, is set to release a sequel, "The Matrix Resurrections," in December this year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Pictures will collaborate with the NFT social platform Nifty's to launch 10,000 NFT avatars themed around "The Matrix" on 11/30, priced at $50 each to promote the film and attract fans.

These NFTs correspond to the movie's plot, with each avatar representing a character living in the Matrix. On 12/16, all NFT holders will have the choice to take the "blue pill" or the "red pill." Choosing the blue pill means the avatar continues living within the Matrix, while opting for the red pill transforms the avatar into a resistance fighter, breaking free from the virtual reality created by the Matrix, similar to Keanu Reeves' character in the film, back to the real world.

As the movie is released, NFT holders will face challenges and choices, with opportunities to acquire additional NFTs and upgrade their avatars.

New Fan Engagement Approach

Jeff Marsilio, CEO and founder of Nifty's, stated:

We believe having a digital identity and making choices around that identity resonates with the story of "The Matrix."

Pam Lifford, President of Warner Bros. Consumer Products, also mentioned:

If you think about ways in 2021 for fans to interact with their favorite characters and stories, beyond stores, theme parks, social media, digital art, and collectibles are now on the list. NFTs are another touchpoint to increase fan engagement.

In addition to Warner Bros., in October this year, Lionsgate launched a series of NFTs for its popular film franchise "Saw," and Fox Entertainment introduced related NFTs for its reality singing show "The Masked Singer." This emerging promotional method is gaining popularity in the film and television industry, leading discussions and increasing revenue from fan engagement economy.
