Interview with pplpleasr | Prefers Rarible over OpenSea, DAOs are like tribes in a game

Taiwanese crypto artist pplpleasr was recently invited to be a guest on Decrypt's Podcast episode "gm from Decrypt." In this episode, pplpleasr had a lively discussion with the two hosts about their views on the current NFT market and the crypto industry, as well as offering some advice to newcomers looking to enter the NFT art industry.

NFT Market Competition

The current NFT market is dominated by OpenSea, accounting for over 90% of the trading volume. However, with competitors emerging continuously, the reigning champion may not necessarily emerge as the ultimate winner.

When host Dan Roberts asked pplpleasr about her views on various platforms in the current market, she likened OpenSea to Instagram or Metamask, where when everyone is using it, less popular platforms naturally become less favored. Despite OpenSea's strong first-mover advantage and broad user base with a wide range of NFT collections, other than these advantages, pplpleasr couldn't think of anything particularly appealing about OpenSea's interface.

Furthermore, pplpleasr also shared her preferred NFT trading platform, which is Rarible. She noted that Rarible was the platform where she minted her first NFT and the first market that allowed users to mint NFTs on their smart contracts.

"I definitely agree that Rarible is somewhat in a weaker position and not as talked about. But since the summer of 2020, it has been doing things more correctly than other markets." pplpleasr commented.

So, what platform does pplpleasr consider to have the best interface and user experience? The answer is Foundation. She described it as having the most optimized and sleek website with a very smooth user experience.

Aside from being a well-known NFT artist, pplpleasr is also a member of PleasrDAO. Therefore, the host also asked her to share her views on DAOs. She believes that people should not see DAOs as a place to make money but rather as tribes in a game. People in DAOs share the same vision and enjoy interacting with members.

However, most DAOs currently do not function like a company, and pplpleasr is looking forward to more infrastructure being developed in the future.

Crypto Memes Culture

The current crypto ecosystem is filled with various meme cultures, and many protocols use cartoon-style animals or food patterns as trademarks, such as the fox of Metamask and the unicorn of Uniswap. pplpleasr believes that the reason for presenting in this way is primarily for marketing purposes. These unique patterns make it easier for people to remember and identify them.

pplpleasr's Advice to Newcomers

pplpleasr considers herself quite lucky to have met the right people at the right time. However, the dedication behind it is also an indispensable key to her success. She believes that even if one cannot always do the right thing at the right time, maintaining a high-risk appetite is essential and keeping oneself in a state to seize opportunities.
