Google to open NFT game ads in mid-September, but prohibits gambling promotions.
Google conducted a policy update for cryptocurrency and related products in August this year, and will open NFT game advertisements in mid-September, continuing its recent crypto-friendly stance. However, there are some restrictions on the ad content, prohibiting the promotion of gambling.

Google to Allow NFT Game Ads Starting Mid-September
According to a Google announcement, starting from September 15 this year, advertisers can promote NFT game products and services as long as they do not promote gambling-related content.
The announcement clearly states that promoting games based on blockchain and involving NFTs is permissible, with the following example:
"NFT games allow players to purchase in-game items such as virtual clothing, weapons, or armor with enhanced attributes that can be consumed or used in-game to enhance player experience or progress."
However, Google also specifies behaviors that should not be included in ads:
- Promoting the ability for players to gamble or stake NFTs for a chance to win anything of value in the real world, including other NFTs.
Example: Players can stake NFTs for a chance to win cryptocurrency.
- Announcing social gambling games where NFTs are rewarded.
Example: Gambling games in a simulated casino environment such as Texas Hold'em, slot machines, or Russian roulette that offer the opportunity to win NFTs.
- Promoting websites that offer real-money gambling, including gambling-related ads on gaming websites.
From the above conditions, Google has now lifted the restrictions on NFT ads, except for those involving gambling or staking rewards.
Furthermore, if advertisers wish to run ads related to gambling that integrate NFTs, they must comply with Google's gambling and games policy, and obtain Google Ads certification through an application process. Advertisers must also adhere to local laws and regulations.
Google's Policies More Favorable Compared to Apple
Google's openness to NFTs and cryptocurrencies can be seen as early as July this year with the adjustment of Google Play policies, allowing developers to integrate digital currencies and NFTs into apps and games, with plans for full implementation by the end of the year.
Similarly, there are certain gambling-related regulations for NFTs within apps, such as not allowing users to indirectly purchase NFTs through random loot boxes in games.

However, compared to Apple, Google allows apps to unlock specific content through NFTs, whether purchased within the app or held in a wallet. In contrast, Apple's "enabling" restrictions and up to a 30% in-app purchase transaction fee make Google much more developer-friendly.
