Step-by-step Guide | How to Get Started with Axie Infinity, the NFT Pet Battle Game Where You Can Earn While Playing?

"Play-to-Earn" has become a hot trend recently, with the battle pet game Axie Infinity gaining popularity. Here are five images to guide you on how to enter the world of battling creatures!

Axie Infinity Basic Preparation

The first step is to mindlessly download these:

Google Chrome > Ronin Wallet

Installation process is similar to MetaMask; at the same time, you also need to have a MetaMask wallet to facilitate the transfer of ETH and other related assets to Axie Infinity's sidechain Ronin: "Getting Started with Your First DeFi Tool: MetaMask Wallet"

  • After creating Ronin Wallet, choose "Login with Ronin Wallet" on the game website > Sign the contract "Confirm" > Name your account after logging in > Set email and password requirements A > Registration complete!
  • In the account settings, there is an option to connect with MetaMask Ethereum wallet Default Ethereum address

When testing, use the MAC version; you will need to log into the game platform Mavis Hub with your wallet's email and password requirement A, similar to Steam. Initially, you must download the game, then you can directly access the game.

Game start screen:

  • The main focus of the game is to form a team of at least three Axies, complete tasks, and earn SLP.
  • Initial tasks include: "Daily check-in," completing 10 levels, winning five battles, which earns you 50 SLP. At the time of writing, SLP is 0.25, equivalent to earning about $15 worth of tokens.
  • Energy: Each battle requires consuming energy; the more Axies you have, the faster it replenishes.

Want to play? To start, you need to buy at least three Axies at the Marketplace. Figure 4 explains the buying process, but first, understand what Axies are!

The official recommended basic combination is: one "Defender" and two "Attackers" as a team. Plant, Aquatic, and Reptile are typical defensive tanks, while attackers need at least two skill cards with over 100 attack power.

Each Axie has different stats, which vary based on its body part and class.

Stats

  • HP: Health, the amount of damage it can withstand
  • Morale: Morale, critical hit rate
  • Skill: Skills, additional damage when multiple cards are played in a row; calculation method Card attack * skill / 500
  • Speed: Speed, determines the order of actions; if stats are the same, priority is as follows - High speed > Low HP > High Skill > High Morale > Low Fighter ID

Body Parts

Axies have six body parts: eyes, ears, horn, mouth, back, and tail. Four parts - horn, mouth, back, and tail - determine which skill cards the Axie can use in battle and provide different bonuses based on the part.

Classes

Attacking with different classes of Axies will have effects of mutual generation and restraint. There are three groups and nine classes:

  • Beast, Bug, Mech
  • Aquatic, Bird, Dawn
  • Plant, Reptile, Dusk

1. Open your Ronin Wallet as mentioned in "Basic Preparation - Step Two", choose "Deposit" to deposit, and you will see two options:

  1. "Purchase assets on Ronin": Buy ETH on the Ronin chain with a credit card. TWD payment not supported
  2. "Deposit with Ronin Bridge": Transfer ETH to Ronin chain via Ronin Bridge, Ethereum transaction fees apply

2. Example of transferring via Ronin Bridge

  1. After selecting "Deposit with Ronin Bridge", Ronin Bridge will open and connect to your MetaMask Ethereum wallet.
  2. After choosing Deposit, in the first step, you can see options to transfer "ETH in Ethereum" to your Ronin wallet in the second step. Here, you can choose to transfer "ETH from Ethereum" to your Ronin wallet.

Note: If you can't find your Ronin address, refer back to Figure 1.

Note: Similarly, you can also transfer assets from Ronin to Ethereum via Ronin Bridge.

Assuming you have already purchased Axies, you can return to the game to engage in battles or missions.

  • Battle mode: Turn-based
  • Winning condition: Defeat all opponent Axies
  • Each Axie has four skill cards. You can view each Ability in the Marketplace; each card will have two copies in the battle deck, so with three Axies and four skill cards each, you will have 24 cards.
  • At the start, you draw six cards, with three energy points. Each card requires different energy points to play.
  • You have 60 seconds to choose which cards to use. After selecting, you must click "End Turn" to finish the round; otherwise, no cards will be played.
  • Each round, you will replenish three cards and three energy points.
