At the press conference on 9/16, the official announcement was made that the new Exodus 1 series of smartphones will provide built-in wallet support for Bitcoin Cash. This new feature will be provided along with the pre-installed wallet from Bitcoin.com and will be available through software updates on the Exodus 1. In a statement, HTC's Chief Officer, Phil Chen, referred to this update as the next stage for the phone, stating: "Zion Vault is excited to natively support BCH in hardware, enhancing security and complementing the BCH blockchain, offering an alternative to dominant payment rails and platforms." The official goal for this series of smartphones is stated as follows: "Having a full node is the only way to achieve full privacy with Bitcoin and is crucial to safeguarding the future of Bitcoin. This phone also helps to promote mobile encryption technology and blockchain applications to the general public, aiding in the global adoption rate of blockchain." Is blockchain and cryptocurrency HTC's comeback? While HTC once dominated the global market share when smartphones first emerged, the company's market share had dwindled to just 1% in 2018. However, in 2019, the company has actively engaged in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space. HTC has added various forms of cryptocurrency operability to its devices and introduced wallet-based ERC-20 token exchange on the Exodus 1 phone in May. In the same month, the company announced that Exodus 1S would include full Bitcoin (BTC) node functionality. Furthermore, the company has attempted to invest in various blockchain companies and collaborate with them. Apart from HTC, the South Korean electronics giant LG is also collaborating with blockchain developers to launch a competitor to Samsung's Klaytn blockchain smartphone. An industry insider mentioned that LG has been in discussions with local decentralized application developers and has devised a use case for its future products. **Related Reading:** - Warner Music collaborates with CryptoKitties developer to establish blockchain platform "Flow" - The U.S. sanctions three North Korean entities on charges of "stealing cryptocurrency."
