Do you think like the wealthy? Nine billionaires who hold Bitcoin

According to statistics from the Forbes Billionaires List, there were over two thousand billionaires globally in 2020. Have you ever wondered what would happen if these wealthiest individuals in the world allocated 5% of their investment portfolios to Bitcoin? Blockchain media Decrypt compiled a list of 9 billionaires who own Bitcoin, let's take a look at how much Bitcoin these billionaires hold.

Elon Musk

Net Worth: $40 billion

Bitcoin Holdings: 0.25 BTC ($2,400)

Elon Musk, the billionaire, engineer, prominent internet personality, and former CEO of Dogecoin (self-proclaimed), is a focal point of attention for many cryptocurrency investors. However, despite being at the forefront of technology, Musk only holds 0.25 BTC.

Elon Musk first publicly disclosed his Bitcoin holdings in 2019. According to the tech entrepreneur, his Bitcoin was gifted to him by a friend and not purchased by himself. Despite not being averse to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, and having posted on various cryptocurrency-related topics, Musk has not increased his Bitcoin holdings over time. Recently, after J.K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, tweeted about Bitcoin, Elon Musk responded with his views on Bitcoin, emphasizing that he still only holds 0.25 BTC.

Mark Cuban

Net Worth: $4.3 billion

Bitcoin Holdings: Valued at $130

Renowned entrepreneur Mark Cuban, known for his wealth and owning the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, has a mixed view on Bitcoin that leaves an impression on cryptocurrency investors. While he collaborates with the payment processor BitPay to accept Bitcoin payments and acknowledges Bitcoin's potential benefits from the Federal Reserve's endless money printing, he has expressed reluctance towards owning cryptocurrencies, stating he would rather have bananas. This lukewarm attitude towards cryptocurrencies is puzzling.

Nevertheless, this billionaire also holds Bitcoin, acquired during a past collaboration between the Dallas Mavericks and the Bitcoin payment processor BitPay, totaling...$130.

Paul Tudor Jones

Net Worth: $5.1 billion

Bitcoin Holdings: 1-2% of investment portfolio, approximately $102 million

Paul Tudor Jones, the legendary hedge fund manager turned Bitcoin advocate, is a newcomer to the list of billionaires holding Bitcoin. In May of this year, Jones stated in an interview with CNBC that his Bitcoin holdings represent 1% of his investment portfolio. Recently, in a letter to shareholders, this legendary investor emphasized his belief that Bitcoin is the best hedge against currency inflation.

"The best strategy for maximizing profits is to own the fastest horse... If I had to forecast, I'd bet on Bitcoin."

Brian Armstrong

Net Worth: $1.3 billion

Bitcoin Holdings: Unknown, bought $1,000 worth when Bitcoin was only $9

It's no surprise that Armstrong made this list. After all, as the founder of the largest U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, he had early exposure to Bitcoin compared to most. Armstrong founded Coinbase in 2012 when the price of Bitcoin was only $10, and the mining block reward was 25 BTC. While this exchange boss keeps his holdings highly confidential, according to Fortune Magazine, he holds more Ether than Bitcoin.

In an interview with Forbes, Armstrong disclosed that he bought $1,000 worth of Bitcoin when it was only $9, and even if it dropped to $2, he did not sell.

Jack Dorsey

Net Worth: $4.7 billion

Bitcoin Holdings: "Enough"

Twitter CEO and Bitcoin evangelist Jack Dorsey has shown unwavering faith in Bitcoin over the years, even integrating Bitcoin into his payment processing platform Square in 2018. Dorsey has always believed that Bitcoin can become the currency of the internet and refers to Bitcoin's whitepaper as "poetry."

Like Armstrong, Dorsey has never publicly disclosed his Bitcoin holdings. However, in interviews, he revealed that he regularly buys Bitcoin to the maximum extent on Cash App.

In March 2019, on the podcast "Tales from the Crypt," Jack mentioned that he buys Bitcoin weekly on Cash App, but had reached the limit for that week. While Jack did not specify the actual amount, based on Cash App's weekly limit for buying Bitcoin ($10,000), the quantity is certainly substantial if continued to date.

Changpeng Zhao (CZ)

Net Worth: $2.6 billion

Bitcoin Holdings: At least 1,667 BTC ($16 million)

Changpeng Zhao is the only individual on the list who claims to have a full-cryptocurrency asset portfolio. He mainly holds Bitcoin and Binance Coin (BNB) from his cryptocurrency exchange Binance.

In 2013, during a meeting with Bobby Lee, the founder of the Bitcoin exchange BTCC, Lee advised Zhao to invest 10% of his net worth in Bitcoin. Shortly after, Zhao sold his real estate for $1 million and put it all into Bitcoin when it was only $600 per BTC. This amounted to approximately 1,667 BTC, now valued at $16 million (Zhao claims he has never touched this asset). Since then, he has continued to increase his Bitcoin holdings.

Winklevoss Twins

Net Worth: $1.8 billion (combined)

Bitcoin Holdings: 1% of Bitcoin's circulating supply (as of April 2013)

The Winklevoss twins settled their case with Mark Zuckerberg over Facebook in 2008, receiving $20 million in cash and 1,253,000 Facebook shares, valued at $65 million at the time. They used this money to establish Winklevoss Capital and began purchasing Bitcoin in 2012, reportedly owning 1% of Bitcoin's total circulating supply in 2013. Subsequently, the twins further established the cryptocurrency exchange Gemini.

Tim Draper

Net Worth: $1 billion

Bitcoin Holdings: 30,000+ BTC

As an angel investor in the internet sector, Tim Draper has a unique investment vision and has generated substantial returns on numerous investment targets. In a 2014 auction, this venture capitalist acquired nearly 30,000 BTC. Since then, Tim Draper has become a staunch believer in Bitcoin. When asked about his Bitcoin holdings in a CNBC interview, Tim Draper responded:

"A lot, a lot."

In 2018, Tim Draper boldly predicted that by the end of 2022 or early 2023, the price of Bitcoin would reach a staggering $250,000. Although the price of Bitcoin has not yet broken the $10,000 mark, Tim Draper remains firm in his prediction and has stated that if it doesn't come true, he will perform an "egg-eating" act.

Chamath Palihapitiya

Net Worth: $1 billion

Bitcoin Holdings: Approximately 5% of Bitcoin's circulating supply (as of 2013)

Former Facebook executive, part-owner of the Golden State Warriors, and CEO of the venture capital firm Social Capital, Chamath Palihapitiya began investing in Bitcoin as early as 2013, estimated to have entered at a price of only $80. Palihapitiya claimed back then that he owned 5% of the entire Bitcoin circulating supply. In February this year, this billionaire publicly stated that during a global financial crisis, everyone should allocate 1% of their total assets to purchasing Bitcoin.

"I 'don't think' that when you wake up early and see the panic due to the coronavirus, the Dow Jones drops 2,000 points, you should rush to buy Bitcoin. That's a stupid strategy. I think a reasonable strategy is for everyone to have 1% of their net assets completely unrelated to the world's operation."
