Is the blockchain trend in Taiwan

The first Dapp.com developer meetup in Taiwan was held in Taipei on the 22nd, inviting the Korean IT giant Kakao's blockchain division, Klaytn, to share their technology. Following the event, a hackathon competition with a prize pool of up to one million was announced, attracting many well-known Taiwanese developers to participate.

Assistant Professor of Interactive Design at National Taipei University of Technology and Co-founder of SELF, as well as blockchain technology consultant, Ke Ru-Jun, was invited to be one of the speakers at the event. When asked about the current status and future development of Taiwan's blockchain industry, Ke Ru-Jun mentioned that Taiwan's strength in digital media and technology has not been fully utilized yet. He believes that if Taiwan can find a new starting point and move faster than others, more opportunities can be discovered. However, he also pointed out that the blockchain trend has been moving very rapidly overseas, admitting that the timing for Taiwan's development "may have passed a little."

During the interview, Ke Ru-Jun mentioned that Taiwanese people excel in mathematics and have strong cybersecurity skills. They also have fast imagination and execution speed when it comes to new technologies. However, due to the ICO frenzy, he expressed regret that some developers and the public have focused on things that may not have a long-term foundation. He hopes that through the movie "The Great Sage Thief," more people can learn about the extended services of blockchain.

The first Chinese blockchain movie, "The Great Sage Thief," is set to premiere on October 18th. As the co-founder of the movie and blockchain technology consultant, Ke Ru-Jun believes that blockchain cannot continue to exist only in the cloud or in and out of exchanges. To achieve integration of the virtual and real worlds, the focus should be on how to make people truly use digital currency or assets in their daily lives, similar to entering Disneyland where people can enjoy all services with just a ticket card.

How is the ecosystem of virtual tokens different from traditional points? Ke Ru-Jun explained that in traditional point systems, if the issuing company undergoes restructuring or changes the game rules, the points accumulated by consumers over a lifetime may disappear. On the contrary, because of the immutable and transparent nature of blockchain, consumers can view or query the chain at any time, transforming the ecosystem from "For the company by the company" to "For the people by the people."

The Self Token issued by the movie "The Great Sage Thief" is backed by movie tickets and can be used in various venues such as cinemas, cafes, and restaurants in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Ke Ru-Jun mentioned that he once flew to Shanghai to watch a reality show and encountered fans who visited a bar after watching director Xu Jiakai's online situational drama, "Mr. Bartender." He pointed out that the power of entertainment will lead consumers from the virtual world to the real world. By creating an immersive entertainment experience unique to Taiwan, where consumers can participate in and decide the plot through digital currency, the meaning and value of Self Token will be enhanced.

Ke Ru-Jun also mentioned that the ERC860 technology used in Self Token was mainly developed by Turing Chain founders Tina Li and Jeff Hu. By creating Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) with ERC860, tailored and easier-to-manage updates can be made based on consumer usage. He stated that the first batch of character cards for the movie "The Great Sage Thief" has been well-received. While the initial technology used was ERC721, mainly due to better support in most blockchain wallets, the transition to ERC860 requires more testing. However, if implemented, it will make the gameplay more interesting.
