Shanghai Upgrade: Nearly One Million Ether Unlocked

According to Token Unlocks, Shanghai has entered its fourth day since the upgrade. Despite users continuing to apply for unlocks in an orderly manner, the price of ETH has not dropped but instead risen. The related data is as follows:

  • Staking APR: 4.99%

  • Average daily unlock: $168 million
  • Total amount to be unlocked: 885,000 ETH

  • Current staking total: 17.29 million ETH

  • Staking percentage of total supply: 14.98% -3.95%

  • Decrease in staking total: -636,000 ETH, around $1.32 billion

The total amount of ETH to be unlocked plus the amount already withdrawn has reached $3.18 billion. However, looking at the daily unlock amount, there is a downward trend in unlocks, with most users choosing to only withdraw some rewards.

However, the slowdown in unlocks could also be due to the fact that the largest staking protocol, Lido, has not yet opened.

Nansen: Kraken Leads in Unlocks Percentage

Previously, two related data websites were introduced: Successful completion of Ethereum Shanghai upgrade! Introduction to two practical ETH staking unlock data websites

Both websites have slight differences in data, with Nansen providing more additional data:

  • Unlocks as a percentage of total staking: 4.5%

  • Approximately 26,319 out of 571,075 validators have exited, accounting for 4.6%

  • Kraken leads in unlocks percentage at 46.1%, followed by Binance at 22.3%

Grayscale Investments specifically released an analysis article on the Shanghai upgrade, viewing it as a bullish event. Analysts highlighted several key points:

  • Lower than expected willingness to unlock

  • Reduced staking risks may further increase ETH demand

  • Unlocking does not mean selling: Users may prefer staking providers with higher returns

Grayscale also emphasized with data that although 1.02 million ETH have been unlocked since the upgrade, 372,000 ETH have also been deposited. During this period, ETH's nearly 10% increase far surpasses BTC's 0.55%.
