Founder and core executives of cross-chain project Cosmos at odds

The well-known cross-chain project Cosmos recently has been embroiled in a series of internal disputes. It started with co-founder Jae Kwon reportedly resigning to focus on his new project, Virgo. Subsequently, Zaki Manian, the director of Cosmos developer Tendermint Labs, publicly criticized Jae Kwon today, accusing him of deliberately shirking the responsibilities that Cosmos should bear.

CZ praises Cosmos as a high-quality project

Cosmos launched its mainnet in March last year, ranking as high as 16th in market capitalization, even rising against the downward trend in the crypto market in the second half of 2018. Binance CEO CZ also referred to Cosmos as a high-quality project on Twitter and voluntarily listed its ATOM token for free.

Despite this, the cross-chain project that was popular last year faced a series of negative news after co-founder Jae Kwon was rumored to have resigned. In response, Jae Kwon released a statement stating:

I have not left Cosmos, this panic is completely due to misunderstandings. Removing the CEO position does not mean neglecting responsibilities, but rather decentralizing internal power. Furthermore, the new project Virgo will complement Cosmos and bring more users into the Cosmos ecosystem.

Tendermint director Zaki Manian criticized on Twitter:

This statement is a huge lie. What Jae Kwon is doing is not decentralization, but a clear intention to evade responsibility and deliberately ignore the Cosmos project.

Reaffirmation that the cross-chain protocol will be launched on schedule

Manian stated that his current goal is to ensure that the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol is launched as planned, and that IBC can be initiated without Kwon, urging community support for this goal. Manian emphasized:

Kwon's actions have caused division, but the core team's passion for Cosmos has not diminished at all.

Tendermint security lead Jessy Irwin also tweeted in support of Manian's remarks, harshly accusing:

This issue is not just about neglecting the project. Core engineers working on Tendermint, SDK, and IBC have repeatedly faced retaliation, harassment, discrimination, and bullying from senior management.
