Former CTO of EOS Unveils New Project "Horn" in a Determined Social Media Revolution: Potential EOS Airdrop Distribution

Despite leaving the EOS.IO project and stepping down as the CTO of Block.one, star developer Daniel Larimer has not slowed down. He is currently working on developing a new decentralized social media platform, which marks his fourth blockchain project.

Clarion OS

Dan Larimer first announced his new project on GitHub, Clarion is a decentralized communication platform with the ultimate goal of replacing centralized social media, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Amazon, Apple, and Google, all mentioned by Larimer.

Current Technology of Clarion

This project is an improvement based on the flaws of Retroshare, Hive (formerly known as SteemIt), and Voice. Larimer pointed out:

Retroshare and ZeroNet do not run smoothly on mobile phones, and the blockchain networks of these social platforms are logically centralized, requiring all nodes to synchronize and verify all transactions, which is not suitable for a large user base. Although IPFS is a relatively successful decentralized protocol, users need to stay online, and users cannot freely broadcast content.

Progressive Web App

Instead of following the traditional path of mainstream apps, Clarion's architecture design adopts Progressive Web Application (PWA). Larimer believes that we can no longer rely on tech giants like Apple and Google to host apps.

Note: PWA combines the characteristics of a webpage and an app, acting as an app that can browse web content without the need to download from the App Store or Google Play, eliminating complex installation procedures.

Applications

According to Larimer, Clarion is an anonymous communication software with much richer functionality than Telegram. The list of functions includes:

  • Asynchronous person-to-person (like email)
  • Real-time person-to-person (video/chat)
  • One-to-many (Twitter/Facebook)
  • Many-to-many (open chat rooms/blockchain)

Token Issuance? Airdrop?

Whether the project will issue tokens has always been one of the users' most concerning questions. When asked, Larimer stated:

The platform's infrastructure is not designed for tokens, but it can integrate with existing public chains. If tokens are issued in the future, they will be airdropped through EOS.

When EOS launched its mainnet in 2018, Larimer reached the peak of his popularity, but as the bear market set in and his development vision differed from Block.one's, Larimer chose to leave, and public opinion of him plummeted.

However, given that Larimer's previous projects have maintained a certain level of competitiveness, even through market fluctuations, remaining at least in the top 200 in market value, including Steem at 191, BitShares at 215, and EOS at 25, can his newly developed project once again capture the public's attention? It is believed to be only a matter of time.
