Lens V2 New Feature: Open Actions
This feature is designed to bring users a more diverse and native operational experience by adding various Web3 functionalities to Lens' App.
Through Open Actions, users and developers can "bring their own smart contracts" and enable any external smart contract operations on Lens, even expanding to cross-chain operations with oracle support, such as operations between Ethereum and L2.
Here are some examples of open actions proposed by the official:
- Tracking
- Minting external NFTs directly on Lens
- Trading ERC-20 tokens or NFTs
- Joining a DAO
- Purchasing land on Decentraland
- Making donations on Gitcoin
- Joining a waitlist
- Providing liquidity to DeFi protocols
Lens V2 New Feature: Collective Value Share
Lens V2 introduces more opportunities for value sharing, allowing everyone to share profits and rewarding collaborative actions.
For example, User A can publish an article on Orb, User B can comment, and User C can collect the content on another App like Buttrfly. An algorithm recommends the content to curators, bringing in additional viewers.
In this scenario, the original publisher may want to share profits to reward users, Apps, and algorithms contributing at each step, enhancing value transfer, strengthening ecosystem partnerships, and their business models.
The Lens team believes that this mechanism will provide opportunities for implementing profit models that reward beneficial actions and altruistic behaviors, while also supporting collaboration between networks and sustainable growth of shared network ecosystems.
Lens V2 New Feature: Profile Updates
Lens V2's profiles integrate the ERC-6551 token standard, allowing the value of "minting" and "collecting" to accumulate on the user's profile rather than the owner's address.
For example, a CryptoKitty can have a Lens profile to follow other CryptoKitties and publish content; or after purchasing virtual land NFT in Sandbox, that land can have a Lens profile page and set up a mailbox for communication with other virtual lands.
Lens V2 New Feature: Profile Management
After enhancing the security layer of Lens profiles, the new profile management feature allows users to delegate social operations to different wallets and store their profiles directly on hardware wallets.
This feature also enables DAO or community profiles to be stored in smart contracts, accessible from one or multiple other addresses.
Reopening of Lens Waitlist
After introducing all the major features of Lens V2, the official announcement also mentions the reopening of the waitlist page, which is temporarily under maintenance to allow more users to join the Lens social ecosystem.
