Base collaborates with ENS to launch their own domain name service: Basenames
The U.S. exchange Coinbase announced on its L2 Base Twitter account that it is launching subdomains based on the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) infrastructure, called Basenames, which will be sold to users via a Dutch auction on Tuesday.
Private space company SERA will launch NFTs on Base, giving buyers the opportunity to ride Blue Origin into space.

Base Introduces Basenames Domain Service
As a core tool for establishing identity on the Base chain, the team has announced the launch of "Basenames," a sub-username powered by ENS technology:
Claim a unique base.eth username to easily connect, collaborate, and contribute on the chain.
Reportedly, these Base sub-usernames are created under existing ENS usernames, the parent usernames ending in ".eth," to manage multiple ENS identities, similar to subdomains for websites.
The team's official website states that any ENS domain owner can create and manage an unlimited number of sub-usernames, personalized and ending with "base.eth."
Will Be Sold via Dutch Auction Mechanism
Base then introduced the sales method, stating that all Basenames will be sold through a Dutch auction Reverse auction mechanism to ensure all users have a fair chance to obtain the desired names:
Prices will gradually decrease within 36 hours, starting at 100 ETH and requiring a premium fee, which will drop to 0.39 ETH within 12 hours; no premium fee will be charged after the auction ends.
About the exact sale date and time, Base creator Jesse Pollak only disclosed that Basenames will be launched on Tuesday:
We're making Basenames the easiest way to build or live on-chain. You're going to want one.
Base Name Service BNS: Phasing Out Services
Meanwhile, the identity aggregation protocol Base Name Service BNS, which has been operating on Base for a long time and provided by Orange DAO, announced that as Basenames launches, it will mark the next chapter for identities on the Base chain:
With the imminent launch of Basenames, BNS will gradually phase out to ensure all Base users have a unified naming service and on-chain identity experience.
