a16z Orange Pill Revealed: Magi! Launches its own OP Rollup New Client

Crypto VC ranking first is a16z, full name: Andreessen Horowitz, which has been teasing with "orange dot" graphics multiple times, finally revealed the truth in the early hours of the 19th. Recently, the blue dot logo OP L2 solution "Base" launched by the exchange Coinbase, a16z's orange dot is the OP L2 consensus layer client: "Magi", both are based on the infrastructure of investing in Optimism technology OP Rollup.

What is Magi? Explained by a16z

a16z states that Magi is a new Optimism rollup client, a fast OP Stack rollup client written in Rust for high-speed operations. Magi is the client for the consensus layer in the OP Stack, similar to Ethereum's division of execution layer and consensus layer, Magi will produce new blocks for the execution layer client to extend the blockchain.

a16z engineer @NoahCitron mentioned that it is still an unfinished product, but can already sync with the testnets of Optimism and Base.

Why was Magi created?

a16z states that decentralization is a key promise of cryptocurrency, and due to the potential single-point risks of clients, people have started to pay attention to the diversity of Ethereum clients. This diversity is equally important for rollups, so a16z hopes to contribute to the development of diversity in rollups clients.
