Vitalik's liquidation of MKR expresses dissatisfaction? Maker founder praises Solana, causing controversy; quick explanation: Ethereum is also a good chain

Vitalik

One of the wallets tagged to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, vb2, sold all of its holdings of Maker MKR tokens on 9/2; coincidentally, Maker founder Rune Christensen had just announced on 9/1 that the long-term plan "Endgame" will ultimately redeploy Maker on a forked chain of Solana. This has also sparked community speculation that Maker, which has deep roots in Ethereum, may have a strong appreciation for Solana.

Vitalik Suddenly Liquidates MKR Worth $560,000

vb2 wallet sold 500 MKR for ETH via CoW swap on 9/2, transferring the funds to another wallet 0x3f62. Although the amount is not significant, Vitalik Buterin's move has drawn attention from the crypto community. Vitalik has not publicly disclosed the reason for selling the MKR.

Coincidence? Maker Founder Praises Solana, Plans to Migrate to Solana

Maker founder Rune Christensen stated on 9/1 that in the final stage of Maker's long-term plan "Endgame," they will launch a new native blockchain, codenamed "NewChain." The aim is to make the entire ecosystem more secure and efficient, with Christensen mentioning that after research, they found Solana's codebase to be the most suitable.

Maker Founder Explains Choice: Suitability for NewChain

Whether this statement led to resistance from Vitalik has sparked much discussion.

In the NewChain project, Christensen believes it will take at least three years to complete a forked chain based on Solana's codebase. This decision is not only due to the quality of Solana's codebase but also because Solana has shown resilience even after the FTX incident.

Why Not Use EVM Chain Ethereum Virtual Machine Public Chains, Including Ethereum?

In response to the community, Rune Christensen stated:

"When it comes to building things for users, EVM remains paramount because that's where users are. But for a specialized backend to meet Maker's specific needs, it's not ideal, and solutions like Solana or Sei are more suitable."

Why Specify Solana or Sei Instead of L2?

Christensen explained:

"To be explicit, I believe Ethereum's L2 layer should be the primary focus for user-facing products because that's where the biggest network effects are consolidating. However, they are not suitable for NewChain as it must be able to hard fork."

Maker Founder: Ethereum is a Good Chain, Extremists Please Return to Bitcoin

In response to criticism, Rune Christensen stated:

"All chains are becoming increasingly interconnected and working together to form a global multi-chain networked economy. Extremist tribalism 'involuntary celibates' (of all kinds) living in the wrong era, please go back to Bitcoin and let the rest of us continue building."

Note 1: "Involuntary celibates," INCEL, may contain a sarcastic reference to involuntary singlehood

Note 2: "Return to Bitcoin" may refer to staunch Bitcoin believers of extremist views conflicting with the development of smart contract public chains

Maker Founder: No Changes for End Users

Despite skepticism from the community regarding Solana, Christensen also stated:

"All products faced by end users like Dai and spark protocol will remain on Ethereum. Having a more efficient backend means we can offer a better DSR DAI savings rate on Ethereum, and the ability to hard fork also means we won't have to shut down DAI due to attacks."
