BSC project Meerkat

The final outcome of the Meerkat Finance exit scam incident in the BSC ecosystem has left people surprised. An anonymous individual claiming to be the developer released a statement today, stating that it was just a vulnerability test, and that user funds are safe and will be returned to users promptly.

Meerkat Finance Exit Scam

According to previous reports, the development team of the DeFi project Meerkat Finance on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) reported being hacked on March 4th, with the team stating in their Telegram group that the smart contract was compromised. Ultimately, 13 million BUSD and approximately 73,000 BNB, totaling around $31 million, were withdrawn and transferred to different new addresses.

Following the incident, Meerkat Finance promptly deleted its website and Twitter account, exhibiting suspicious behavior that led to speculation of an inside job, where the team orchestrated the attack themselves and blamed it on hackers. Just when victims were left with no recourse and had placed their hopes on Binance, the project team unexpectedly emerged claiming it was all just an "experiment."

A $31 Million "Experiment"

At 1:30 PM today, an individual claiming to be a Meerkat Finance developer named Jamboo released a statement stating that Meerkat Finance was merely a social experiment to test human greed and subjectivity, aimed at helping users understand the potential dangers of smart contracts.

He explained that the recent events were intentionally orchestrated by Meerkat Finance developers who invited a third party (hacker) to conduct the exploit, with a detailed report on the attack process to be released later. Jamboo promised that as this was just an experiment, Meerkat would update its data and execute smart contracts to compensate users. Details of the compensation will be announced within the next few hours. To prove the authenticity of the Meerkat developers, Jamboo stated that a transaction of 0.1 BNB to BUSD would be executed through the Meerkat contract address to verify their identity.

The transaction has been sent and confirmed after the statement was released:

Furthermore, at 3:50 PM, Jamboo also launched a voting activity for users to decide on the compensation plan.

Do you believe this event is truly an experiment as claimed by the Meerkat Finance developers, or is it a story fabricated under pressure from Binance after the team's exit scam?
