Event Update: National Taiwan University is recruiting students for the second "Blockchain Financial Legal Studies Reading Club." Professor Yang Yueh-Ping continues to serve as the advisor.

The second "Blockchain Financial Legal Study Group" at National Taiwan University, renowned in the blockchain legal community, has recently started recruiting members. The study group is composed of members from both the industry and academia, and is guided by Professor Yang Yueh-Ping, a rising scholar specializing in financial technology law at National Taiwan University. Professor Yang has also been interviewed on the legality of defining cryptocurrencies as commodities, receiving much acclaim.

What is the "Blockchain Financial Legal Study Group"?

The "Blockchain Financial Legal Study Group" at National Taiwan University is jointly organized by the "Taiwan Blockchain University Alliance" and the "NTU FinTech and RegTech Research Society." The aim is to facilitate members' understanding of blockchain financial regulations through in-depth literature reviews and industry-academic dialogues, establishing a knowledge system to delve deeper into relevant topics in the future.

The study group is guided by Professor Yang Yueh-Ping from the Law Department of National Taiwan University. Professor Yang, who obtained his Doctor of Juridical Science degree from Harvard University in 2017 and returned to Taiwan to teach, specializes in financial supervision and corporate governance, including financial technology, financial institution governance, financial consumer protection, capital markets, international finance, and is one of the few scholars in Taiwan dedicated to financial technology regulations.

The study group was first launched in 2019, with an equal composition of students and industry professionals. The first session offered 16 spots, attracting over 60 industry professionals, showcasing its popularity.

Peng Shao-Fu, Chairman of the Taiwan Blockchain University Alliance, the organizer of the study group, mentioned that the discussion topics are highly relevant to current industry concerns, covering areas such as financial regulation technology for cryptocurrency, financial regulation of securities token issuance and circulation, anti-money laundering and electronic payment financial regulations, financial stability of cryptocurrencies, and systemic risks.

These topics are meaningful for exchanges between academia and industry, allowing academics to understand the operational challenges in the industry, while the industry can benefit from academic research systems and solutions. After the completion of the first session of the study group in 2019, over 20 certificates were issued, recorded on the blockchain to demonstrate members' grasp of the related topics, creating significant impact. This year's second session of the study group focuses on regulatory technology, open finance, public chains vs. private chains, decentralized finance, and central bank digital currency, and is still under the guidance of Professor Yang Yueh-Ping, with Peng Shao-Fu, Li Guanyi, Zhou Jingyuan, Hou Ze, and other scholars dedicated to financial technology regulations serving as instructors.
