CoinMarketCap launches DeFi project list, has CoinGecko done this already?

Following the acquisition of the price tracking website CoinMarketCap, a series of news has emerged. Recently, in response to the DeFi (Decentralized Finance) craze, it has added a "DeFi" option in the coin category. What other new features are there?

Including 40 DeFi Tokens

CoinMarketCap quietly launched a new feature on the evening of the 29th, where users can now find the option for "DeFi" under cryptocurrencies. It includes a total of 40 DeFi tokens, such as:

COMP, MKR, ZRX, KNC, REP, LEND, SNX, DAI, REN, LRC, LUNA, BNT, NMR, RUME, WBTC, RSR, KAVA, EDO, IDEX, SUSD, MLN, AMPL, NEC, AST, JST, AUC, HOT, SWTH, AKRO, FRM, JRT, EOSDT, LRN, DF, CDAI, PBTC, DXD, STAKE, UMA, BAL

The official announcement mentioned that more related information will be added in the future.

Introducing "Chat Groups"

CoinMarketCap launched the "Chat Groups" feature on June 11th, allowing users to engage in discussions with other online users. However, the current data shows that the usage rate of this chat room is still relatively low. Additionally, when clicking on individual coin pages (such as Ethereum), there is an option for a chat room (Chat), which will redirect users to relevant external chat rooms.

New CEO's Plans for the Third Quarter

Looking back at the second quarter, after being acquired by Binance, the original founders and CEO of CoinMarketCap announced their retirement, and Carylyne Chan, the former Chief Strategy Officer, took over. During the Binance era, CoinMarketCap has been more active in publishing new content on their blog and conducting interviews with industry professionals.

The new mechanism that prioritizes "Website Traffic" as a ranking indicator has sparked some dissatisfaction. However, the addition of "Confidence" and "Liquidity" does provide more detailed information compared to the previous version.

Carylyne Chan stated that in the third quarter, they will collaborate with more cryptocurrency projects and exchanges, and introduce a self-reporting dashboard to allow users to access more detailed information to assist in their trading decisions.

Competitor CoinGecko, Earlier and More Personalized

CoinMarketCap's competitor, CoinGecko, despite trailing behind CoinMarketCap by four times in traffic over the past six months, provides more detailed data categorization.

CoinGecko offers more options to view cryptocurrency categories and exchange categories:

Even in terms of liquidity scores, CoinGecko introduced it in May 2019 and made another update on July 1, 2020 as announced:

"We introduced the Trust Score on CoinGecko in May 2019. We were the first major cryptocurrency data aggregator to not just use trading volume to rank exchanges. Fast forward almost a year later, the Trust Score now has significant impact on the crypto industry as many participants have followed suit and gradually adopted liquidity-centered metrics on their websites."
