Summary of the nd4.eth burning incident | Over $8 million burned, suspected impersonation for token issuance?

Recently, there have been speculations about an unknown whale who sent over $8 million worth of tokens and NFTs to a black hole address within three weeks, sparking curiosity about their identity and motives. Hundreds of users have sent blockchain messages to the whale requesting token transfers. It is reported that the user nd4.eth may even be impersonated to create fraudulent tokens and provide liquidity, so caution is advised.

Burning $4 Million Draws Attention

nd4.eth initially caught the crypto community's attention two weeks ago when, on July 26, it transferred 2,500 ETH worth about $4.63 million to a black hole address 0xdEA…069. In recent days, it has proceeded to burn assets worth $1.8 million in GNS, over $1 million in GMX, as well as multiple BAYC, MAYC, and CryptoPunks acquired since the beginning of this year.

As of 5 p.m. today, it has burnt over $8 million worth of assets, and the exact reason remains unknown.

Reportedly, the black hole address is an address with a lost private key, and "burning" refers to permanently removing tokens from circulation by sending them to a black hole or an address with no private key.

How Much Money Has nd4.eth Burned in Total?

According to blockchain observer Haotian's analysis, addresses related to and with massive transfers include endit.eth, enditall.eth, noth.eth, blackholefaller.eth, ndnow.eth, which collectively still hold around $3.95 million in liquid assets.

Below is a summary of the assets and their values burnt by nd4.eth since July 26:

  • 10k APE worth about $18k

  • 2 MAYC worth about $35k
  • 1 CryptoPunk worth about $105k

Excluding tokens valued at less than $10k, approximately $8.41 million in tokens and NFT assets have been burnt.

Community's Generosity in Action

During this time, the crypto community did not miss any opportunity for sudden wealth. Researcher Tom Wan discovered that over 200 messages were sent to nd4.eth requesting unwanted cryptocurrencies. Of course, these messages went unanswered.

Impersonation for Coin Giveaways

Haotian warned that numerous accounts impersonating nd4.eth on Twitter were conducting coin giveaways and sharing phishing links, highlighting rampant fraudulent activities.

Additionally, on etherscan, addresses resembling nd4.eth were discovered transferring large amounts of ERC20 tokens with strong scam implications, deploying contracts and adding liquidity. It has been confirmed as a typical scam method, where by manipulating contract code, they pretend to be nd4.eth making transfers to attract users to invest funds.
