Coinbase Wallet integrates with Solana, will support NFTs and offer all interactive features in a few months

Coinbase announced that its plugin wallet now supports the Solana blockchain, following the launch of Coinbase Pay to simplify the process of depositing funds into cryptocurrency wallets, providing features such as debit card and bank account fiat deposits.

Coinbase Wallet has added Solana to its supported blockchains, joining Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon, BNB Chain, and others. Similar to MetaMask, this allows users to manage Solana, SPL tokens, and assets across different blockchains without the need for multiple wallet applications running simultaneously.

In the announcement, Coinbase noted that Solana has been one of the fastest-growing blockchains in the past year, establishing an active developer and user community:

Its Total Value Locked (TVL) has grown to over $73.5 billion, with more than 1,400 projects launched, covering DeFi, NFTs, and Web3 sectors, including popular NFT projects like Degenerate Apes, decentralized exchange Serum, and other DeFi protocols.

Currently, the widely-used MetaMask does not support Solana directly. While it can be connected through methods like Neon EVM, it is too complex for entry-level users. As a result, most Solana users interact with wallets like Phantom, Solflare, and Coin98.

With the support on Coinbase Wallet, users can import their existing Solana self-custody wallets into Coinbase Wallet with just a mnemonic phrase. Coupled with the previously introduced Coinbase Pay, users will be able to interact with blockchain protocols in a more intuitive way, such as depositing fiat currencies.

Coinbase emphasizes that this is just the beginning of the Coinbase Wallet and Solana ecosystem integration. In the coming months, support for Solana NFTs will be added, along with all functionalities for future interactions with the Solana ecosystem.
