"Let's create a Pokémon Go with Bitcoin as the main character."
The Bitcoin financial services company Fold is partnering with Niantic this time, all due to this sudden idea. While Fold currently focuses on cryptocurrency debit card services, allowing users to earn Bitcoin rebates in their daily spending, with the rise of the metaverse trend, Fold aims to increase the channels for users to earn Bitcoin through a simple mobile game.
Similar to the gameplay of Pokémon Go, the game screen reflects the real-world surroundings of the players. However, instead of searching for various Pokémon with different appearances, players have one common goal: to find Bitcoin in the screen, denominated in Satoshis, and tap to collect. The game also features some special items that can provide players with unique effects or additional earnings while playing.
The game is set to release a test version on the Fold App soon, with the official version expected to launch next year.
Note: To download this app, you need to change the region of your mobile app store to the United States.
Play-to-Earn
"We believe Bitcoin is really just a game. And, millions of people around the world are already playing this game, earning Bitcoin through mining, trading, and other means to pursue financial freedom," Fold stated in the announcement.
In the current flourishing era of blockchain games, Fold chooses to emulate the successful model of Pokémon Go's inception, creating a low-entry and daily integrated gameplay method, with the earned tokens being the most well-known and valuable Bitcoin today. Perhaps they can truly carve out their own path in the fiercely competitive blockchain gaming and metaverse market.
