Substack Adopts Bitcoin Lightning Network Payments
According to a press release, Substack has integrated with the API of Bitcoin payment processor OpenNode to offer Bitcoin and Lightning Network payments, allowing users to pay subscription fees with Bitcoin.
João Almeida, Co-founder of OpenNode, stated:
This strategic partnership enables creators on the Substack platform to receive income in Bitcoin, giving them the choice to hold or convert to fiat. As writers and podcasters flock to Substack for creative and financial freedom, Bitcoin aligns perfectly with this vision.
Nick Inzucchi, Product Designer at Substack, also commented:
We are excited to collaborate with OpenNode to allow independent creators on Substack to accept cryptocurrency payments. This payment option provides creators with greater flexibility, and we look forward to diving deeper into the crypto space to meet the needs of our creators.
However, Substack mentioned on Twitter here that not all creators currently have the option to choose cryptocurrency payments, and Lightning Network payments are initially available only to creators focusing on cryptocurrency content. The platform will consider broader implementation based on feedback and demand from these creators.
Note: This option is not yet available to all publishers.
We are looking forward to exploring broader availability based on the feedback and demand from these early experiments.
