Solana Mobile Launch Imminent, US Users to Enjoy 30 Days of Free Helium Mobile Service

Solana blockchain announced earlier that it will launch a crypto-based smartphone called Saga in the first quarter of next year. A test version will be handed over to developers in mid-December, followed by the launch of applications for the Solana dApp Store. Helium, an IoT company that partnered with Solana in September this year, also announced that it will offer Saga users in the U.S. a 30-day free subscription to Helium Mobile, allowing users to seamlessly connect to the Helium 5G network and 5G networks of partners across the U.S.

Solana has released more information about the Saga mobile application:

  • Mobile Wallet Adapter: An open protocol for connecting dApps and wallets on mobile devices. Currently supported by Phantom and Solflare.

  • Solana dApp Store: A dedicated application store for Web3 dApps, emphasizing a user-friendly platform that is free and open to digital ownership and creators. It protects users from spam, unwanted software, malicious apps, and illegal content, unlike Apple or Google policies. Solana Mobile will start accepting applications for the Solana dApp Store in January 2023.

  • Helium, an IoT company that decided to move its mainnet to the Solana blockchain in September, announced that Saga phones sold in the US will receive a 30-day free subscription to Helium Mobile, allowing users to seamlessly connect to the Helium 5G network and 5G networks of partners across the US.

  • Hardware wallet provider Ledger will also update support for Saga, enabling users to easily transfer funds between the Seed Vault wallet and Ledger Nano hardware wallets in the future.

Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko previously shared his thoughts on Saga at the Disrupt 2022 conference. Saga aims to grow alongside the industry by leveraging the advantages of Web3, rather than expecting to rapidly acquire a large user base. Saga is priced at $1,000, and a $100 deposit is currently required online to qualify for pre-order.
