Bosch self-driving car project | Vehicles also have decentralized identities, just park and charge
Decentralized identity can also be used in self-driving cars. The GAIA-X 4 moveID project, led by Bosch, will collaborate with partners to showcase blockchain applications at the September Munich Motor Show, allowing cars to register with decentralized identities and use decentralized wallets to pay for parking and charging fees.

The moveID Project Led by Bosch
GAIA-X is a trusted data association consisting of 350 EU members, applicable to any existing cloud/edge technology stack, providing transparency, controllability, portability, and interoperability across data and services. The ecosystem, composed of numerous members, aims to share data space knowledge, collect cross-border use cases, and provide opportunities for Gaia-X association members to establish networks, collaborations, and define open standards relevant to specific domains such as aviation, energy, finance, smart cities, agriculture, and more.
One of the projects within this ecosystem is GAIA-X 4 moveID led by Bosch, which aims to utilize decentralized vehicle identity for data exchange, including locating charging points, billing, and autonomous driving. The alliance consists of 19 members, including Airbus, Continental Tires, and seven blockchain or web3 startups: Chainstep, peaq, Datarella, 51nodes, Ocean Protocol/BigChainDB, Fetch.ai, and deltaDAO.
Half of the project's funding of 28 million euros comes from the German government. The project aims to develop standards and technical concepts so that mobile applications can securely exchange data.
Peter Busch, project leader at Bosch, stated:
Autonomous vehicles need to exchange data with the environment. Other infrastructures will include charging stations, traffic lights, and parking lots. Connected parking is a 10 billion euro global market.
Set to Debut at the Munich Motor Show in September
The International Motor Show (Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, IAA), one of the world's top five motor shows, will take place in Munich, Germany from September 5th to 10th. The German brand BMW has already announced plans to showcase the world's first bulletproof electric luxury sedan, the i7 Protection.
Moreover, moveID will also be featured at the event. Through its MOBIX application, Tesla and Jaguar will be able to pay for vehicle charging and parking fees. Cars will register with charging stations or parking spots using their Self-Sovereign Machine Identity and then pay fees using a decentralized wallet. peaq and Fetch.ai will support these transactions and the network and interactions of the identity layer.
Kai Meinke, Co-founder and COO of deltaDAO, stated:
While data is becoming increasingly important in the AI era, current mainstream methods of accessing and unilaterally utilizing data are incompatible with the concepts of ownership and privacy. moveID changes this equation, allowing all stakeholders to own their data and use it in ways they see fit without compromising their privacy.
