According to statistics from the application ranking website AppBrain, the decentralized web browser Brave became the most downloaded browser in Japan last month.

Brave has jumped to the 9th position in the communication category of apps, with over 2 million downloads.

Overtaking Firefox and Opera

Brave has surpassed Firefox with over 553,000 downloads, while Opera has over 1 million downloads, a 50% decrease from last month.

Nevertheless, Brave still falls short compared to Google's Chrome browser, which dominates 60% of the global mobile browser market.

Brave was founded by Brendan Eich, co-founder of Mozilla and creator of JavaScript, in 2015. Its downloads on desktop and mobile devices have exceeded 30 million.

ABM has provided a detailed introduction to Brave, which launched the Basic Attention Token (BAT) based on Ethereum in June 2017, raising over $35 million through the ICO sale of 1 billion tokens.

ABM recently reported on Brave's partnership with Wikipedia, officially adding the online encyclopedia to its growing list of publishers, allowing users to reward with BAT tokens.

Prior collaborations include the world's largest open-source code platform Github, original video platform Vimeo, and popular social platform Reddit, continuously integrating with major platforms.

Brave also announced support for a native cryptocurrency wallet, allowing users to buy and sell BAT tokens through the wallet.

Reports indicate that the Brave Rewards wallet was updated on July 24th to introduce a mandatory KYC process, which, for the privacy-focused Brave team, has caused some contradictions and user dissatisfaction. Founder Brendan Eich explained:

We must comply with regulatory requirements with our partner Uphold, Brave cannot allow fraudulent bots or certain criminal organizations to transfer BAT tokens anonymously.

Japan's Strong Push for Cryptocurrency

Japan has been at the forefront of cryptocurrency adoption, with over 10,000 companies accepting Bitcoin payments. In April 2017, Japan regulated cryptocurrency transactions under the "Payment Services Act."

In addition, Japan established the Financial Services Agency FSA as a registration platform for cryptocurrency businesses as early as 2014.
