In May of this year, amidst the craze for Dogecoin, the father of Dogecoin, Elon Musk, announced on Twitter that Doge-1 satellite will be launched to the moon and fully paid for with Dogecoin, aiming to become the first cryptocurrency meme to reach the moon. At that time, most people were skeptical, but now it seems to be coming true?

When Elon Musk initially made this post, energy company Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC) also announced that the "DOGE-1 mission" will be launched into space aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9.

"This is the first case in commercial lunar history where Dogecoin Doge is fully used for payment," stated GEC.

New Developments in Lunar Mission

According to Cointelegraph, smart trading ecosystem Unizen and DeFi incubator ZenX have announced a collaboration with GEC to construct and prepare to launch a 40 kg cubic satellite named "DOGE-1." After being launched aboard Falcon 9, this DOGE-1 satellite will travel to the moon's orbit 250,000 miles away from Earth, gather lunar space data from sensors and cameras, and transmit it back to GEC for analysis.

The rocket launch is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022, with both companies stating:

This means that DOGE-1 could be the first cubic satellite to reach the moon in history, achieving a significant milestone in the global aerospace industry.

Musk's Contribution

If this project proceeds as planned next year, the DOGE-1 mission will become the first lunar mission in history to be paid for with cryptocurrency, significantly elevating Dogecoin's application status, and adding another milestone to Elon Musk's contributions to crypto payments.
