Voluntary Recycling Credits (VRC) Standard
According to CoinDesk, the Swiss non-profit organization Dfinity Foundation recently partnered with management consulting firm Roland Berger to develop a technology aimed at enhancing global recycling activities. This technology is based on Roland Berger's introduction of a Voluntary Recycling Credits (VRC) standard inspired by the carbon credit market in June of this year.
Official statements indicate that the initiative targets the global waste management sector that has a negative impact on climate change. Of particular concern is that the recycling rate of plastic waste, among the 2 billion tons of municipal solid waste generated globally each year, has not yet reached 10%.
Dfinity Foundation aims to create a new product on the Internet Computer blockchain that will allow recyclers, waste producers, and other stakeholders to buy, sell, and trade these recycling credits, with real-time tracking.
Roland Berger stated that blockchain technology provides a crucial foundation for this project, with a decentralized model ensuring that all transaction records have "transparency, auditability, and security."
