Uniswap Launches uni.eth Usernames
Uniswap has introduced its own wallet usernames uni.eth, which are now available for all users of the Uniswap mobile wallet app for free, including new users who join in the future.
The uni.eth usernames are built on the ENS infrastructure and utilize ENS subdomains, allowing uni.eth to be recognized on all applications supported by ENS.
Free Wallet Usernames as a Unique Web3 Marketing Strategy
It is not uncommon for projects like this to introduce their own wallet username system, with Coinbase also offering exclusive usernames like cb.id to its users.
Currently, the annual fee to register an ENS username on Ethereum is approximately $5, excluding the gas fees required, which were around $40 at the time of writing. Therefore, the marketing strategy of offering free wallet usernames does indeed have some appeal to users, as it allows them to replace their wallet's complex address code with their own name for free.
ENS has collaborated with domain registrar GoDaddy to introduce zero-cost DNS integration.
It is expected that we will see more projects proposing similar marketing strategies and campaigns in the future.
