At 6 a.m. on the 10th, Tesla founder Elon Musk confirmed his "To The Moon!" shout on Saturday Night Live (SNL) by announcing that SpaceX will send the Doge-1 satellite to the moon, making it the first cryptocurrency and meme in space.

Energy technology company Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC) has announced that the "DOGE-1 Mission" will be launched aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. The company stated:

This marks the first-ever case in commercial lunar exploration where the entire mission is funded with Dogecoin.

Geometric Energy Corporation CEO Samuel Reid stated, "After officially conducting such a significant transaction with Dogecoin, Geometric Energy Corporation and SpaceX have solidified Dogecoin as a unit of account for lunar business in the space sector."

A SpaceX vice president added, "This mission will demonstrate the application of cryptocurrency beyond Earth, paving the way for interplanetary commerce."

The press release indicated that this transaction proves that digital currency can achieve speed, reliability, and security that traditional banks cannot, and is robust enough to support lunar missions.

Both Geometric Energy Corporation and SpaceX have even indicated that this unit of account will be used for payments in future missions to the Moon and Mars.

Musk tweeted that the SpaceX satellite Doge-1 will land on the moon next year, with the mission being funded by Dogecoin, making it the first cryptocurrency and meme in space. The lunar mission is reportedly set to launch in the first quarter of 2022.

Musk's Words Come to Fruition

Musk has expressed multiple times his desire to send Dogecoin to the moon. On "Saturday Night Live," he took the stage as a Dogecoin enthusiast and, when asked what Dogecoin is, he described it as a cryptocurrency that's like regular money but fun, leading to some comedic moments. Ultimately, Musk exclaimed, "To The Moon~~~~~," hinting at his grand plan.
