Background of Anthropic
Anthropic, founded by CEO Dario Amodei, a former researcher at competitor OpenAI, was established following Microsoft's initial investment in OpenAI, leading to commercialization and diverging paths in development direction.
Anthropic, born in 2021, developed an AI chatbot named "Claude," widely seen as a competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Just yesterday, Anthropic also announced that following the iOS app launch in May, Android users can now experience Claude on their mobile devices.
Backed by FTX, Google, Amazon
As a highly anticipated AI unicorn, Anthropic has received investments since 2022 from bankrupt exchange FTX founder SBF, Google, South Korean SK Telecom, and Amazon, with a total fundraising amount exceeding $3.3 billion, according to financial records.
Google and Amazon, as major shareholders, have pledged to invest a total of $4 billion and $2 billion, respectively.
Previously, for repayment purposes, FTX fully sold its 8% stake in the company last month, garnering a total of $1.3 billion.
SBF's investment in AI startup Anthropic sees a fivefold valuation increase, giving FTX clients the chance to recoup more funds!
