Meme project welcomes a new member! "Grumpy Cat" coin is born, raising $70,000 for the shelter.

The NFT craze and meme tokens show no signs of slowing down, with a token designed based on the famous internet celebrity cat "Grumpy Cat" launched in February. It was sold in a recent auction for nearly $80,000, with over $70,000 donated to animal shelters.

Grumpy Cat

The meme-based token Grumpy Cat GRUMPY, inspired by the famous internet feline "Grumpy Cat," has surged over 1,000% since its listing on Uniswap in early February. It has also recently been listed on the cryptocurrency data platform CoinGecko.

Despite its meme-centric nature, Grumpy Cat shows more foresight compared to Dogecoin, which was created as a joke. The project features include:

  • Total supply of GRUMPY is 100 trillion tokens
  • 1% of each transaction fee is given to GRUMPY holders
  • Rewards without paying Gas Fees
  • Commitment to charitable activities

According to its roadmap, Grumpy Cat will be launching on the Binance Smart Chain in May.

Raised Over $70,000 for Shelter

According to their tweet, the GRUMPY team sold 150 billion tokens, valued at around $80,000, and donated $70,000, approximately 39 Ether, to the Sterling Animal Shelter in Massachusetts. This marks the team's first charitable activity since its inception.

Despite the charitable act, GRUMPY has not released a white paper on its official website, nor has it mentioned token distribution. Grumpy Cat's token inevitably evokes memories of Dogecoin's meme-based community consensus, as the Dogecoin Foundation, a charity organization, was established for Dogecoin in 2014.

The original inspiration for GRUMPY, the internet cat "Tardar Sauce," passed away in 2019 at the age of 7. Its owner mentioned that the grumpy expression was due to a congenital form of feline dwarfism that resulted in an underbite, which attracted countless fans worldwide.

Regardless, the Sterling Animal Shelter does seem to have received donations and expressed gratitude for GRUMPY's help:
